They'd have a field day at numerous car dealers if this is true. How many unregistered cars get driven off the transporter that's parked in the street and then into the dealer forecourt? A lot, that's how many!

I'd imagine they could fund most of the Yorkshire Police in this manner if they parked a car outside Mathewsons yard.

I smell fish.
Grimsby market is less fishy.

Also, even if it was the old dear across the road with the camera that reported it, I'm pretty sure plod would have a word just to confirm rather than just issue a fine to someone they can't confirm is the registered keeper, based on her word.

As has been said there is much more to this story than what we're being told.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Where would the authorities even start to ticket someone?

It's unregistered, so won't have a plate, so how would the bike's mere existence lead to authorities identifying its owner/keeper without some direct interaction with them at the time of the 'offence'?

In many areas, plod have been running 'initiatives' against anti-social off-road bikes.
Phone lines to dob people in etc.
So it is possible that plod have got involved.

I seem to recall someone posted in a thread a while back that the letter of the law is pretty draconian when it comes to having an unregistered vehicle, or any vehicle without a number plate, on the highway.

The letter of the law, and what's enforced in normal practice are not always the same thing of course.

But it does sound like half a story.

They don't live with their mum and haven't done so for many years.

[This week] the person's mother got a letter in their name (not the mother's) with an FPN for an unregistered vehicle offence.
Return the FPN with "This person does not live at this address." written on it?

Yeah I'm interested in hearing the rest of this story as it doesn't really make sense as is.

This is a "some bloke down the pub..." story isn't it?

The more you drink the more credible it sounds in your head. laugh

It probably will depend on if the offence is "Driving" or "Using". If it's "Using" then probably not got a hope in hell as it's a *very* wide net.

Might get away with it if the offence is "Driving". Of course could argue it's not intended for road use and go down that.

I did find this which explored a broadly similar issue but expanding on the whole driving vs using issue.

Does smell like fish. A vehicle with no number plate is not an FPN offence and how would dibble know the difference between unregistered and just a missing plate?

This.

How from the video footage alone do you know whether it is a correctly registered and insured MX bike but without it's numberplate fitted, or an unregistered MX bike.

Too late for April 1st.

I can believe they got a letter, I find it hard to believe the letter is from an actual authority and not just a curtain twitcher.

Yes, I would accept they perhaps received a letter. But from who is indeed the question.

That's what trade plates are for!
