However, we still have a problem in this country. They justify speed camera's to SLOW people down at black spots, so why make them harder to see.

Fixed ones this is fine, people slow down (usually) and that keeps people slow and safe. GPS locators help even more, essentially a blackspot beeper. Danger here, slow down, be more alert, works well.

However, random littering of mobile camera's is getting worse, and in the ones I've seen have always been hidden away so you don't see them. Don't tend to speed in urban areas where I know Plod could be hiding, tis not worth it, but it's frustrating as a sign saying they where there would infact slow people down for the hazard ahead, however as it is, drivers speed unaware into a trap, which clearly does nothing for safety at that point, but does a whole lot of good for the big pot of money the scamerati get!

I can't begin to imagine how you justify camera's at blackspots for safety when they can't be seen. How is one supposed to know when to be extra vigilant and slow down for a particular black spot?

Funny how our police give out fixed penalty fines for using a mobile phone. Nice revenue earner for somebody there as well! Saw some figures on the news just the other night. Still, it saves taking people to court and having a proper trial. Shut up and pay up!

So, do they just park a bin on the street or do they ask the residents first? Or, do they watch it after they have planted it?

Well, I would take it to be the thing for the dog's doo-doos if one appeared neary our home. You seen them standing alone sometimes on a rural in Switzerland und people have been known to think this was for the remains of a picnic

This is precisely why I can't get too upset over the speed cameras here.

I kinda agree, I'd find it much worse if they were in bins, but probably find myself cycling more *just* so I could hunt them down and accidentally on purpose damage them

Defintitely. Terrible hazard to place in way of cyclist. Justifies a well aimed kick

But this ist the jutification in Oz und Holland und Alps.. ist to slow people down at "black spots" und prevent an accident. We are not that gullible..ist about £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££!

This shabby und shallow und sneaky underhand practice rather copnfirm this to be case.

Ist like Ings... accident happened outside the 40 mph und the village itself ind they were not speed-related. Gazette stated very clearly that one fell asleep und the other had heart attack.

Ist why I'd like regular medical check up to be compulsory - but I have personal und subjective bias on this one as you know.

Ist what we said to Steviebababes when he started accusing all und sundry of "perverting justice" by owning such a device. Und I clawed him at time.

Ist well said und deserve to be repeated over und over again! Ist all about revenue raising und easy target who will pay up. The tighten up of insurance law ist another und it now affect the comprehensive policy which allowed me to drive next door neighbour's car und still be covered third party in emergency. So they remove this perk und the chavs still buy the throaway, fail to register und will still evade the NIPS for Gatso und insurance expiry Ist danger of having a Pinocchio nose - they cannot see beyond lenght of their longest nose!

Oh that's nothing... have you heard about that case when someone noticed a wheelie bin standing dangerously far into the road, moved it and was done for 'corrupting the course of justice' 'cause there was, of course, a speed camera hidden in the bin. Got a 540 euro fine IIRC. Only in the Netherlands...

OK, he might have known about the scamera...

We indeed have those things in the Netherlands too! a few years ago when I drove home my Stinger detector went off and I saw a car, and I slow down and yep, in that car was a camera...so after that I put my pedal down again...but after a few miles again my Stinger went of?! I saw no car, only that grey trashcan standing longside the road and I heard of those so I slow down and look and saw the hole in it! and no one else had his/her trashcan standing outside...so when you see on standing on the wrong trashday slow down!

I agree with some of it, but not the "...keeps people slow and safe..." bit.

"Slow" doesn't mean safe any more than "fast" means dangerous. Being afraid of being caught doesn't "make people more alert", well not in terms of safe driving, it may make them look out for cameras more though and that's not safe driving.

That's the simplistic view that the government are trying to brainwash people with.
