Just before my time.

It may worry PHers to know thatthere is nor REQUIREMENT on any emergency service to train their drivers. Obviously most do and have strict policies in place on who can and cannot respond/use lights etc... Take me for example, I am a Class 1 but I'm not currently allowed to drive high performance cars or respond/pursue as I'm not "in ticket" and I'm not in a role which requires me drive in that manner.

But there are still some Police Forces which allow basic drivers to respond, often in cars wholly uinsuited to the role.

Road Safety Bill when it receives Betties signature will enlarge those that will be permitted to exceed the speed limit. Organ runners will be included provided they have undergone a high speed driving course.

When I read 'The Sun' my money goes with TVP. That rag will print anything and far from the truth and unfortunately there are those that take things as gospel.

There is a celebrated in car video of a Police driver rushing an organ
(heart i belive ) to a hospital in London some time in the 80´s driving at great speed , i saw it on some TV prog and the driver was praised for doing a great job i wonder how this would be seen today

It would still be the same today......however, that was the first one but there have been plenty since.

In fact ive done a couple, one in particular i picked up at the bottom of the M1 and rushed it to a central London Hosp.
It was very strange when i was driving to look in my rear view mirror to see this box on the back seat and next to it was my Lunch box...very surreal.

However, when i got to the Hosp it all became apparent, as soon as i stopped, the rear doors opened and the 'cargo' was whisked away.
Later, chatting to the Doctor, if we had been 5 mins later the person would have died.

I had a break after that and if i smoked, i would have lit up a gigantic cigar.

..... more cops less Scam .....

Another link on that page refers to work on a road in Oxford to install a barrier on a dual carriageway.

Fair enough, The reason seems to be that a middle aged nurse took here 13 year old son and 6 mates in her small hatchback, lost control and veered across the carriageway. 3 of the lads died as did the driver of a car travelling the other way.

So one wonders why there was no need for a barrier before but, because someone stupidly overloads their car taking their son for a birthday 'treat', a barrier suddenly becomes of paramount importance.

Sounds to me like some ass covering for poor previous safety planning or they are using the accident as an excuse for the timing of the installation.

But they are also implementing a 50mph limit.

So they make the road 'safer' with the barrier because of an accident caused by a driver making a very poor judgement call on the capapbilities of their vehicle and then implement road safety improvements by enginerring and the ADD ON A SPEED LIMIT.

Presumably the barrier needs to be self funding?

Any chance of a high wall around Oxfordshire to give us half a chance of keeping the insane councillors away from the rest of the country?

(Sorry for the thread hijack but it seems to be part and parcel of the attitudes which seem prevalent in that part of the country, as in the original subject.)
