There's a fine line between a single long flash to alert the driver to your presence and repeated and aggressive flashing to force someone out of the way which passes the test for inconsiderate driving. Beware. I find a long flash whilst still some way off and closing occasionally wakes them up.

Otherwise - dropping into the nearsideand back out again creates some movement in the driver's mirror which he is more likely to notice than an apparently stationary vehicle. Headlights are your friend.

Obviously if there is another lane to pass him in, then out you go and leave him in his own little world.

That tallies pretty well with my way of dealing with it, but I think your speed of approach is relevant. Too slow and they may think you're not really bothered about overtaking. Too fast and you may take them by surprise and make them flustered - or bloody minded. In any case it is no use wanting somebody to get out of your way if there is nowhere for them to go.

I find I often get on better if I'm patient about things, but alert to opportunities and organised to take them, rather than pushing too much all the time.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Clearly you don't drive around here... You can do whatever you like sometimes, the old git/middle aged woman (Stereotype alert activated) is still completely oblivious.

And I don't want to leave him in his/her own little world, that makes them a chuffin' dangerous driver, I want them to notice there are other cars on the road.

Ah, sorry - rather like 7db I was intimating that I do not find this to be a major problem, but I must make allowance for the fact that you hail from Essex. That does put a rather different complexion on things. Up here in civilisation we are blessed with a higher proportion of decent drivers, so the problem arises a good deal less.

Best wishes all,
Dave - commiserations from an old git.

It seems obvious to me. MLMs often give rise to a much more dangerous sitution than [your favourite subject here ].

On the M25 the other day, I was highly amused to find the MLMs actually favour the second-from-the-right lane. On a four-lane carriageway there are often TWO clear lanes to the left of them and one congested lane to the right of them.

So I'm faced with two 'blocked' lanes and two clear lanes. Which one do you think I drove in?

yep same on the m62 where it goes up hill into yorkshire they pull out into lane three to leave two clear lanes inside
this cuases a problem at the top of the hill where it reverts back to three lanes
