Well I guess it makes a change from those flashing yellow road lamps and traffic cones!

Yes, they serve a useful purpose and contribute to road safety.

............And make great student headgear too .

The camera was put on this road to slow motorists down because three people a year are being injured on this stretch of road

I thought they only put up speed cameras where 3 people had actually died ??

Perhaps it's a pre-emptive measure? Stick the camera up and within a year there'll be at least three deaths caused by people looking at their speedo rather then the road - hey presto, 'justification' for the scamera.

Crikey, that's a terrifying statistic. Not.

Evidently that must be construed as a 'blackspot' then rolleyes

Wow! Three people a year injured on that stretch! Maybe they should just close the road entirely, as it is clearly unsafe!

Haha, thanks for the story Puggit, it's cheered me up after a dull weekend

I love the BBC's obvious sarcastic comment:
"Police say the camera was installed to improve safety"
(the tagline of a photo of a clear, straight road...)

Someone should tell those three people to find an alternative route - Streaky

3 people were indeed injured on that stretch of road last year:

1. Dave from Wandsworth was heading home after a heavy night out with his mates on February 16th. He was a bit drunk, tripped up and scuffed his right knee.
2. Michelle, a 12 year old local girl fell off her bike on March 21st, causing a sprained left wrist.
3. Alex, a local joiner was carrying some wood across the road from his van on June 4th when he dropped a large piece of 2 by 4 and it landed on his left foot causing a nasty bruise.

There you have it. Accident blackspot. We really need a camera there.

Information supplied by the Office of National Statistical Bollocks.

if they replace it, would you get far with the defence 'well I might have been a little over the speed limit, but I heard the area was a crime hotspot so i didn't want to hang about....'
