Well it looks like you've got a resolution, which is good. Shame their piss poor attitude led you down the road of irreparable relations though.

I reckon, unfortunately, that once your cars are all sparkly again, you'll find mysterious vandal damage on them. Again, why is Miss x replying to you? Did she do the deed or is the insurance in her name.

I had a similar instance.

I had my RS4 parked on the driveway whilst away and the neighbour next door has 2 gun dogs. Anyway the neighbour parked alongside my car and an excitable dog must of leapt out the car pushing there door into my rear door on the Audi.

I hadn't noticed at the time but when I entered my house there was a note asking me to pop over and speak to them which I did.

The chap there was really apologetic gave me a bottle of wine and couldn't apologise enough.

No paint damage was done and I paid out my own pocket £80 to have the dent removed. The neighbour relations are very good now and he keeps an eye out for my property and I'll be amazed if such incident happens again as he parks a full doors length from my car.

Now although I was the one out of pocket (and cost much less than your circumstance) I was happy for neighbour relations to take the hit on the basis of the apology and gesture and admittance to causing the fault. Anyway sadly a week later a kid jumped out this car and put a dent into the front door...

The lady in question sounds like the one your dealing with sister... complete denial all be it I saw it, heard it and my paint is on there door. I know where the owner lives and it's very tempting whilst I'm conveniently miles away on holiday something tragic like a cricket ball lands on there bonnet but I refuse to lower myself to the same level.

May be academic now but since there was no evidence whether MrB or Mrs B did the painting I would have written all correpondence to both and, if necessary issued summons on both to avpid getting to Court only for the one upon who the summons was issued to say it wasn't them but their partner in which case, unless evidence was offered to the contrary you're back to issuing on the other party.

Just read the whole thread and I can't belive how many people take the attitude of 'suck it up'.

I'm in dispute with a high street retailer and posted up for advice on here and got the 'just get on with life and forget it' advice. That's OK if you don't mind having a damaged car/floor/suite or whatever or paying for the repair yourself but I believe in taking responsibility for my actions and expect others to do the same.

Good luck for a positive outcome OP!

Other than MrB said he did it way back when I first noticed it, I asked if he had sprayed his fence, he said yes.

It didn't escape me that she continues to write the letters, but I think that says more about him rolleyes

I would have been much happier with a compromise at an earlier stage too, but this went south so early on it just wasn't ever going to happen with "Miss B" on the case rolleyes

Just hoping this gets closed off without further developments!

I was thinking of Mrs B's letter of 26/7/12 in which she said '...Mr [Blanked out] and I have not accepted any liability... ' implying that they may have joint liability or either, individually so to cover yourself I would issue against both. If it then emerged that someone else had done the painting you would have to either claim it was done on their behalf by person(s) instructed by them or that they had personal liability.

Like I said, probably academic now but worth bearing in mind.

I was thinking of this thread only last week when I was painting a fence. So deep in thought was I that I got paint spots over the wing, light, side window and wheel of one of my cars.

Shame I can't ask myself to sort it out for me. £5 at the local handwash sorted most of it.

its good you could address it immediately, (as per the warnings on the paint)... if you'd have left it for 2 weeks, you'd be having a tougher job.

On a different note, we got our last car back today and paid the bill, just need to submit this to their insurance company and hopefully draw a line under it all rolleyes

I wouldn't write off all neighbuor relations now, our dog once killed all of next doors chickens twice (due to their unkept garden growing through our fence so 50/50 I'd say) things were very frosty for a while but they came round and are alright again now give it a year or so :-)

How good a job did your guy do TigerS6? 100% back to how they were before the fence painting started?

A horrible situation to be in, we have a fence at the front of our property splitting our driveway from next door, and next door had a fence splitting that driveway from the next etc. Our neighbour then erected a similar fence along the front to make an enclosed garden and asked me what type/shade of paint i'd used on my fence so he could match his new fence. I had loads left so gave him the tin, but with the stipulation that when he gets round to do the painting he let he know first so I can move our 2 cars.

2 weeks later I am passing the front window and happen to spot the twot painting his fence mad right next to our cars!

Yeah, pretty happy with all 3, the Evoque needed extra work because one of the detailers used a coarse clay for a sample patch (so left some marring), so I asked this guy to polish it out for me.

I've not found any missed spots so far, but given the amount that was on there to start with I fully expect to come across some next time I'm meticuluously polishing it!

I'll grab a 'comparison' shot to one of the early ones in the thread (purely for completion).

I'm glad you've managed to sort this out..

It will leave a sour taste in their mouth as I'd imagine the excess on their insurance would be circa £200.

You don't pay excess on 3rd party claims.

Hi Guys,
Been a couple of weeks, but just thought I'd bring this to conclusion.

We got the cheque through from the insurance company today, I'm actually suprised they were so quick!! I was expecting a couple of months and lots of chasing!.

Still not talking to either of the Neighbours... infact there is obvious avoidance. I'm not going to lose any sleep over that though.

Thanks for all your comments and advice, I did certainly include some of your words into my correspondences thumbup

sounds good. avoidance is probably for the best, as they don't seem the sort of people you would really want to know anyhow

Good news! But it's a shame that neighbourly relations had to break down. Maybe time will be a healer.. smile

Good to hear you managed to get it fixed. Shame it had to via the insurers, but they didn`t really leave you with any other options.

And what will protect the paintwork from the covers?
The covers shouldent damage the paint if you get the right ones which are made of soft material
