I bow to your expertise.
The weather road conditions etc, while mentioned when I was in the dock, didn't appear to make much impact but when they were told I had a clean licence (needed it too, as we all do) and apologised contritely they went from a potential ban (up to 56 days) to points. I was a bit shocked, pleasantly.
Interestingly I was the only one who put a plain suit and tie on, thought I had overdressed...

I really don't understand people who go to court and DON'T wear a suit and tie. If you're homeless and can't afford one then fine, but otherwise it's an easy chance to score some brownie points before the court.

My experience too. I recall one of my appearances when the police officer acting for the prosecution was specifically asked what the conditions were. The response was that it was dry, good visibility, light traffic - from the way it was said, they are always asked that sort of question.

Police officer was also asked if there were any aggravating factors to consider in the way Mr Longblackcoat was driving. The response was quite pleasing - the guy said that no, Mr LBC was exceeding the limit by X but there were no other negatives, he pulled over as soon as signalled to etc.

I did the requisite suit-wearing, grovelling etc and my solicitor did the usual stressing of the absolute wonderfulness of his client.

Of course I have no idea how much notice - if any - the magistrates took of this; I still got skewered in terms of fine, and got lots of points, but didn't get a ban. At the speed I was travelling - 60% over the speed limit in a 50 - that was certainly on the cards

Dont think was warranted. Poster was saying get on a race track. They did not say anything more than 70 and you should be shot by brake Gestapo!

They said 100mph plus on public road was not smart which is a fair comment, I've done but tend to keep it below 95 as the magical 100+ doesnt seem worth the hot water. You can maker progress on motorway/dual track without trying to do double the limit. The OP just has to be prepared for the fallout.

Mitigation is key if loosing the licence will effect more than their ability to socialise that needs to be said. Also if they have a substance abuse issue or a disable relative blah blah they need to mention that. If they already have points its no a one off is it now.

Go back and read what he said carefully and then work out why I said what I did. Think tyres...

A recent job of mine at 58 in a 30 resulted in a 42 day ban. I would guess you would be banned longer than 50+ days plus a hefty fine.
Bloomin heck I was close to a ban 10 years back. 56 in a 30 saw me with six points and a smallish fine.
It just seems to be total pot luck what you come out with. I got 4 points and a £150 fine for doing 62 in a 30! That was a good few years ago right enough.
it is pot luck. 82 in a 30 here and got £500 fine and 6 points. no ban

I bet the copper that stopped him at that was rather unimpressed!

My 62 in a 30 was right at the 30mph sign coming off an NSL. Rather sneaky i thought but i still broke the law at the end of the day. That was used as part of my defence and looking at the fine/points of some others it worked.

It sounds bad but if you knew the road. For those that know it was the Upper Thames St tunnel. It's off limits to anything but cars. It was a silly thing to do. Got a Doctors note, kept my licence and pretty much behaved ever since.

It was 4 coppers with speed guns at the East side of Upper Thames Street Tunnel. Three very young guys, can't have been more than 22-23 and a much older officer. The young guys literally high five each other and were 'whooping' with delight. The older officer gave them a right scolding. He was very pleasant to me actually. Even gave me some advice on what to do, not to do in court. The facts were they got 82 off the lotus in lane 1, i was many car lengths ahead so was probably doing more. I wasn't about to dispute 82. I think they has a prior opinion of speed hehe

Thanks Surveyor101. I totally accept that some posters answer their own question set out to answer their own questions - it doesn't bother me.

For the record, in my work I've had to drive and test some highly modified stuff a some very high speeds on test track and race circuits.

All I was trying to raise was the thought that at close to 130mph things can happen on a clear road - very quickly.

At 130mph with the average driver's reaction time of 0.3 seconds you will have traveled the width of the road before you've had time to exercise any control. Since the normal driver's car was probably last serviced about 5,000 miles ago and tyres probably weren't checked before the trip. Unlike a track, public roads are rarely checked for debris and public roads do not have run-off areas but are littered with signs, drains and other rubbish - risky you bet!

Tell the magistrates he saw a sign for Jaywick, and not being on benefits he was trying to put as much distance between himself and there as quickly as possible.

For all you doubters out there, Dan (Ekona) was not the offender ... he's put this thread up to help a member of another forum who has come clean, admitted he was wrong and asked for advice ... and that member of another forum is not me by the way
