I am not as worried about "excessive speed" (within reason) as I am about the overall standard of poor driving. If Tonyrec is out there in his marked Trafpol car pulling dangerous bozos off the road, he is contributing more to road safety that a hundred scameras (imho). There is a mobile scamera on the A66 between Stockton and Darlington. It is a dual carriageway, so 70 would be regarded as safe and sane, and as has been noted elsewhere, the threshold is usually quite a bit higher in any case. Yet EVERY b----y time I go past it, some one feels the need to slam on the brakes and try to pass it at 45. Some fool in a 7 and a half tonner did it yesterday, jerking from the right lane into the left, right in front of me. It galls me that if I didn't have such good brakes (and an awareness of what was going on around me) I would have been left sitting in a little pile of fibreglas shards, and would have received the ticket to boot.
