It may be that the police do not like the current situation, but I certainly don't see any of the police arguing in the motorist's favour.

Far too busy reaping the overtime.

Rubbish and ignorant. At my nick at present they CANNOT get volunteers to do any overtime! People arn't interested in it. I would rather be at home relaxing. I take so much s**t off people in my job that i refuse overtime, even when they're short of trained drivers and offer double time! "Arguing in the motorists favour?" Err, so i'm not a motorist too then? Yes i regularly speed on and off duty! YES i detest speed cameras and camera vans! I'm sorry if that ruins certain people image of us all being boring, square, 'Tony Stamp'-type characters!

In regard to 'speeding', as Robbo pointed out there is a TON of paperwork needs filling out every time i set off a gatso etc (i placed quite a lengthy post on another thread about it...) Trust me, if i'm caught speeding for no reason, i WILL be in the cack for it. Saying "well i'm an advanced driver" etc will NOT cut the mustard as far as complaint/ticket/discipline etc is concerned....

I think the big problem is that a massive majority of the public want to drive at whatever speed they want. They see nothing wrong with it. Yet God forbid they should see a Police driver doing the same. Suddenly the Police driver is 'speeding', and 'one law for them etc...'

As i stated when i first registered here, i know nothing of camera vans etc. I've never held a 'hairdryer' or any other such object. It's such a common misconception that all Police Officers are involved in speed limit enforcement. They are not!!!

I don't blame Gone at all for jacking it in. I greatly enjoy posting here and reading others posts, but it just seems to be a whinging forum at times. Someone drives like an arse and gets caught, then posts here slagging off the Police and asking what lies they can tell to get out of it. Having said that, they are the minority. The regular contributors here are normally far more constructive.

Anyway, been typing far too long, i've got speeding motorists to go and hound....

OK, a fair point and well made.

My first line still rings true though!

Ya right there. You will also get knocked by those that say the limit doesn't apply to them 'cos they're a good driver. Eh!...good argument that innit. They speed, you stop 'em, you're in the wrong!!!

Thing is, it's all a mix. You an I both know that there are some really excellent rozzers, and some really bad ones. There are definitely some who speed, and some who don't. There are some who enjoy playing the tw@t, and some who are normal. We (in our different worlds) know this, 'cos there are people like this in all walks of life.

I think the BiB generally do a good job. There are some who think you are the Devil incarnate. Nearly everyone thinks that rules apply to everyone else, but not to them, 'cos they are better. You only have to read most of the threads from those caught speeding to know this. But few, if any, have actually got up and done anything. They haven't joined the motoring organisations, or petitioned parliament, or complained to their MP, or formed an action group, or refused to pay the fine, etc., etc., etc. All of those things take effort, and it's much easier to knock you.

Having said all that I STILL think you were b*st*rds in the miners strike.

Completely right. I've never been someone who religiously defends old bill just 'coz i am one. There are plenty of idiots in this job.

well,

as I started this thread, I better point out that I currently have a clean licence and have not been stopped for speeding in recent history - sorry if this does not fit your stereotype....

I think regards the rest of your post, you seem to be convinced that the rest of us are homicial speeding maniacs......

Where's that come from? I've just read over the post again several times, i fail to see any such suggestion. Bit paranoid are we? I thought it was my usual kind of post....light-hearted but informative....how have i suggested any such thing? Oh well, you crack on with the sweeping generalisations and moaning, it would appear that no-one stands a chance of changing your attitude....

sorry, but I read that as we are all homicidal speeding maniacs.

bit harsh maybe, but I am sure you get the point.

getting back to the point of the thread, it's more about double standards than speed limits per say...

Are the majority of the public who wish to drive at whatever speed they like the same majority who are in favour of speed cameras?

A final note.

A very close friend is being "looked at" for her driving. She is banned from driving work vehciles until the matter is investigated.

Would your boss remove your license if you got caught speeding or driving badly in a company car ?

personally, I think that would be somewhat an over-reaction, but these days, I think that I would not be at all supprised to find this happening...

for example, just look at how many HGV's are now being forced to do 40Mph on single caridgeways that before would have been doing 56 or so...why you may ask?

answer, cause these days with the speed police, they cannot afford to get the points, else they are out of a job etc.

whist I really don't agree with this, it's not me that is creating this problem.

to cober the other point about the majority etc. you should be very awaire that *any* servay will give whatever answer you want depending on the exact wording of the question and how it's presented.

for example, ask any resident what they think about traffic on their street and I garentee they will go on about people speeding, why? cause people are stupid and can't think out of their own little boxes.

Hello folks, I trust you're all well.

My licence is still clean after 48 years, and these days I'm not only clocking up the miles at a very rapid rate, but at higher average speeds than ever before. I've driven about 17,000 miles during the past ten weeks, as usual treating the NSL with the respect it deserves.

The official attitude to speed is becoming ever more nonsensical, and sooner or later it will have to change in favour of something more rational, otherwise there will be a major backlash from the driving community. Too many people are now being caught by the stupid system, so something is bound to happen if we go on like this.

Gone - if you're still reading this, let me say I'm sorry you seem to have reached the feeling you now have regarding these forums. In the past I've argued with you a time or two, but I still try to bear in mind what you've said, even if I remain unconvinced at this time.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

It is starting to happen!
all you need do is join in!!

The next time you get a NIP,
fight it !!
go to court and plead innocent!!
plead not guilty!!

take the fight to thier arena, and dont give up !!
you may pay a larger fine
and still end up with 3 points,

OR YOU COULD BEAT THEM !!!!!!!!!! AND PAY ZILTCH!!!!
they pay you costs instead,.?

THE MORE WHO DO THE MORE THE COURTS CLOG UP,
THAT IS THE ONLY WAY THE LAW A******S WILL GET THE GOVERNMENT TO CHANGE THE LAW.

Lets face the facts, we would be more liable to pay just a fine of £100.00 than pay £60.00 AND 3 points without anything more than a good moan on a forum, It is the POINTS THAT IS ATTRACTING THE ATTENTION, because, you loose everything without a licence, if the lawmakers make a small change to tier laws, we would probably pay up without :

It is because the SCAMMERS are making a LOT of money from those morons who do not fight back, that the system has evolved to this state.

WE NEED THE LAW CHANGED TO REFLECT A REALITY OF DRIVING, SCAMMERAS AND SCAMVANS DO NOT WORK.

IF THEY DID , THE "CRIME RATE" FOR THIS ACTIVITY WOULD HAVE NOSE DIVED INTO THE GROUND,
BUT IT HAS NOT, ORDINARY PEOPLE OF GOOD DRIVING FOR YEARS CATAGORY ARE LOOSING THIER DRIVING LICENCE AND THIER LIVELYHOOD, FOR ABSOULOUTLY NO REASON.

GOD HELP US ALL

Honest Anti, I know what to do. I'm just a bit disheartened (after years of being an activist..don't ask for details!!!!) of the lack of response.

On a much much smaller scale I'm one of these that P*sses peeps off in a shop (or garage) 'cos I refuse to print my name on the cheque. I don't pay for broken articles in a shop (if it's not my fault). I complain over poor service (but thank 'em when they get it right). I argue vociferously with the Old Bill (unless I think they are right...which they sometimes/often/occasionally are).

I won't go into too much detail about causes supported (say no more), but I get fed up with those who only say something when it affects them. Even worse, sometimes folk moan about principles affecting others, but won't actually do anything.

However, you and your comrades that stand up to be counted are to be applauded. I welcome your comments, and when I end up in court I will ask for you...an' I ain't joking.

Cheers mate....keep it up.
