Unless it is flipped up when on the road the device in itself is not illegal. They are marketed as a device that saves you masking your number plate at track days (to stop the insurance company spys often seen on pit walls!) freely avaliable and legal to fit just not use.
the manufacturer advertise in the back of MCN and are called "road 2 track" or something similar.
So by law the fact that he had one should have absolutely no bearing on the sentance at all

I wasn't aware of that. Just checked my books which state that under Section 23 of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994, regulation 18(3) 'requires the rgistration to be fixed and displayed so the that the letters and figures are easily legible in normal daylight.'

I'll be eating my hat then ..... Raises some interesting possiblities.....not that I would approve of course

This biker guy had a device for flicking over his number plate James Bond style. What part of his sentence (if any) was for this or what would have happened if he wasn't speeding but got done for the plate only?

Sorry, no.

75% of what we pay for it is tax. That means we pay 300% tax on petrol.

A fair number of us pay 40% tax on income then pay 300% on the petrol

Lucky. Yeah, so lucky to be alive, and sentanced to prison for 12 months. 12 months of maybe being fd up the ae, only to get AIDS? or maybe just to get beaten up? (prisoners or guards?) Hmm. And his crime was to speed, and be caught? yeah. Really fair. So he may now lose his job, mortgage, and family.

Grim state to be in. This police state of England. Rule Brittanic, pass me another spliff, Tone....?

That is what I meant..75% of what we pay is tax. Makes me sick to think that £28 to fill her up each week = £21 to Gordon Brown. I still cannot believe people are willing to put up with this. The environment excuse is wearing a bit thin as less than 1% of pollution is caused by cars and soon we are going to have Majoy price hikes in petrol.. Will the people stand for it ?? I sure do hope not

Yes they will, because it doesn't matter enough to most people - only when petrol is not available at all (a la fool protests) will the public start to voice dissatisfaction..

Too many people in this country are indifferent, indolent, incapable and in-my-bloody-way .. lol.

Regarding fuel tax, this simple point sums it up for me:

Everyone remember when 4-star was more expensive than unleaded because it was more damaging to the environment? Well, then they replaced it with LRP, which is generally accepted as being similar, in terms of it's effect on the environment, to unleaded. Now ask yourselves if LRP is the same price as unleaded? That's the tax policy of this government.

Anyone know if the higher price of LRP is due to

a. Higher tax
b. Higher costs to produce
c. Greedy oil companies taking advantage
d. All of the above

?
