Hello.

On the way home from work today I think I was caught exceeding the speed limit by a parked camera van. The road I was driving is a 30 limit, and I think I was doing around 40.

Obviously I will need to wait and see if an NIP turns up, hopefully with the option of a speed awareness course if so.

My question/rant is about the parking of the camera van. It was parked (in my opinion) pretty dangerously, being on the grass central reservation shown below with the back end toward me. The van was the full width of the central reservation, and was a hazard in itself.

Is there any case for escaping this potential ticket based on this dodgy parking? I had strayed over the limit which is fair enough, but this kind of law enforcement whereby a speed limit is enforced by making a dangerous hazard annoys me.

The actual coppers do it around here, you frequently see one with his motorbike on the pavement, so all the pedestrians have to walk in the road to get around him.

That much of a hazard that you thought you'd better slow down?

Won't make any difference at all.

Well yes I did slow down once I reached the van, since it's a long straight road I figure he'd have already got me by then

Bloke at my work was banned for a brief period for being caught by a camera van that was parked on a very similar central reservation (and it does so regularly).

I wouldn't count on it as a defence, if required.

If he was on the central reservation why is that a safety issue? Were you intending to drive along on the grass? The reservation looks to be wide enough for a van to park without infringing on either of the carriageways.

You think they'd knock out the tracking or damage the tyres bumping up a kerb like that wobble

Bloody stupid place to put a camera van. He's creating a hazard getting on and getting off the central reservation.

Speeding. Strayed. Call it what you like. I was driving perfectly safely with my eyes on the road, not staring at my speedometer.

Yes the van fit on the central reservation, just. If it was my car parked up there, I imagine I'd be receiving a visit from the police on some kind of dangerous parking grounds.

You wouldn't really though would you.

Jesus wept man, I hate the talivan as much as the next man, but they've got you, sadly !

Fair enough. Maybe I'm blinded by my own annoyance. I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Although I still think that joe public couldn't park there.

Possible suggestion - next time you see it there, take photo and post it on local paper website , with the question as to how something parked this unsafe adds to road safety . Fight fire with fire. Personally if I see one parked on a pavement, I'd be on phone to police claiming there was not room for a pram to get round without going on to road, and posting photo on local press .

There's plenty of places Joe Public can't park, sadly they can.

had one round my way. Road turns from NSL to 40 as you come round a slight bend. He was parked in a bus stop. Stopped, took photo and gave him a nice smile. Came back that way 5 minutes later he was gone and have never seen them there since.

Your fooked but I would put pen to paper and point out that it was illegally parked.

I know we'd all like it to be classed as illegally parked, most of us would like it torched, but in reality, is it illegally parked ?

I doubt it somehow.
