129mph on a 70mph DC
Discussion
In a car, 8pm on a clear sunny evening in the summer, on the A120 outside Colchester. Caught by a copper with a speedgun, NIP arrived within time, court in Feb.
I would say it's not me, but no-one believes that anyway! For the record though, it's not
What do we think the outcome will be? Worth getting a solicitor, or just begging like crazy?

I feel for you, i really do. Exactly the same happened to me going past Stansted a few years back doing 126mph with the missus asleep in the passenger seat. The bike copper at the time wasn't impressed, albeit he was friendly, all things considered. I spoke to a solicitor and waited patiently (for 6mnths) for the ticket to appear but it never did.
I'd bet on a 56day ban and a fine related to salary for that.
Edited to add, the only time i've been to Chelmsford court for speeding i got 6points and a fine for doing 101mph on the A12.

The last time I was in court (for speeding), the guy ahead of me was up for a similar speed, certainly either side of 130mph. I would say it's not me, but no-one believes that anyway! For the record though, it's not

His driving history was reasonably OK (a few points, never been banned), and I believe he got a 5-6 month ban. I've heard of shorter and longer bans for similar speeds, but have yet to hear of someone fail to be banned and just given points.
Depends on what your licence means to you as to how you approach the court. A solicitor gives a better chance of presenting your case and making the mitigation work, but you might still get a hanging judge who hands out a one-year ban and a retest.
For the sake of £500, I'd take legal representation. And beg like crazy. With any luck it'll 'just' be a 56-day ban.
I summonsed a young lad last year for 135 on a DC. Tried to go not guilty on some misguided internet expert advice and represented himself. Ultimately found guilty and pleaded exceptional hardship if he lost his licence for an excessive period got a 56 day ban and an eye watering fine (can't remember the figure but I remember thinking that it must've hurt)
Honestly chaps, it wasn't me driving, promise!
You've been more optimistic than me, I'll say that much. I said to him that he could well be looking at more than a few months ban with a huge fine. Do you think it'll make any difference if he's already got points, or not really at this point.

A recent job of mine at 58 in a 30 resulted in a 42 day ban. I would guess you would be banned longer than 50+ days plus a hefty fine.
Bloomin heck I was close to a ban 10 years back. 56 in a 30 saw me with six points and a smallish fine.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
