Fastest ever speedster nabbed

Man caught at 172 mph in Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche 911 Turbo
Porsche 911 Turbo
Sky News reports that the fastest ever speeding ticket has just been issued to one Tim Brady.

He was doing 172mph in a Porsche Turbo -- borrowed according to the story -- whose speed broke the previous ticket speed maximum of 156mph. Brady is a courtesy car driver who, said Sky News, borrowed the car to show off to his mates.

The company for whom Brady used to work said he took the car without permission -- and afterwards came in and resigned.

The previous speeding record, set in 2003, was held by a car dealer, Jason McAllister, at 156mph in Scotland. He was jailed for five months. Brady is currently on bail.

Pretty impressive speed.

Other than the fact it sounds like the car was pretty much stolen (although could be the company dropping him in it) I think it is pretty funny.

Almost everybody has a bit of a blast when conditions allow.

At least the seats in a porsche are comfortable for his bottom because he is heading straight for jail and we all know what happens in there, don't we.

Lucky they found him some space in jail, what with all the paedos getting out and making a run for it.

Shocking how someone was put away for 5 months for the previous top speed offence (providing that was his only misdoing)

...but hes not a "violent or persistent offender" surely......or is speeding now a bigger crime than being a paedo ????rolleyes

Am I getting old? I think this guy is a complete moron. I can mentally accept 100mph on an motorway in the dry. 120mph is safe-ish if you know what you're doing and the motorway is empty. But over 170? I know from experience that stuff happens awfully quickly at 100+, and the risk to other road users is way too high for my taste.

I'll hazard a guess that he doesn't have any track or advanced driver instruction. Plonker.

Nobody died, the actual speed is kinda irrelevant (it was seriously in excess of the speed limit - anyone here not guilty of that occasionally) he was doing it in the 'right' kinda car, cant see that much of a difference with the copper that got let off actually....

172 in a Current 911 Turbo will probably feel like you could be on the phone, eating a BigMac and doing the Daily Crossword and still feel in control..

None of us would condone over 70mph m'lord!! Honest!

yes Something I said on a related thread this morning:

I know the A420 dual carriageway, I also drive a similar but slightly older car. Getting caught is very unlucky. The car will have been controlable at the speeds mentioned earlier, assuming the weather was dry it could also have braked to zero in less than 350 yards (ask anyone who's been to VMAX)......

..and visibility ?? I'd want a good clear mile -in any case you've no chance of spotting plod in the hedgerow with his hairdryer at that speed.

Amazing how this would be considered an everyday, mundane activity on the German Autobahn yet over here its headlines and jail-sentences. Ridiculous.

If only there was so much zeal to catch real criminals...

In recent years ...

My elderly mother's house has been burgled three times. Once, a neighbour gave the police the reg no of the van left outside during the buglary.

My garden has been vandalised.

My car has been vandalised.

Drunken yobs have lobbed glass bottles onto my drive resulting in a blowout in the outside lane of the motorway.

A lorry driver has rammed my wife's car and driven off; police were given his reg no.

None of these have been pursued. Not one of them. The only police action has been to hassle my wife for producers, witness statements etc in quite rude terms only to send an NFA letter.

In addition, I have been told two (separate) barefaced lies by police officers or police employees. Nothing is done to correct them.

Meanwhile, my extended family has amassed 6 points for driving that was not in any way dangerous and I regularly see vans, cameras and the like lying in wait, aimed squarely at my wallet. A recent routine report of court proceedings in the local rag listed a driver caught with no insurance, no licence and a seriously unroadworthy car; £90, no points. It also reported a 36 in a 30; £60, 3 points.

I now have no respect left whatsoever for our system of road traffic enforcement or for our police force in general. Individual officers seem genuine and (largely) honest but they work in a system that is neither.

This guy proved what a 911 turbo can do, and he did it without killing or hurting anyone. Good on him.

Speed Kills? Don't make me laugh.

172mph? that could be brokenhehe who's gona try

Just got my license back for a year now when they laserguned me at 03u in the night empty higway and just wanted to feel from 100 to the end...they got me halfway doing 255km/h(159mph) and thats still the recorded record on that road in the Netherlands, but have to say its a very "safe" piece very flat and the conditions perfect for a short fast blast...shame they awaited me on the bridge over that road...
I think almost everybody does some speeding at some time, that does not make you a bad driver, I was smiling all the time till they stopped me that is they were talking by walkie talkie working together with alcohol control but I never drink or smoke or whatever so no problem till a guy shouted over the walkie talkie...aaaaa a big penalty and a long time without car and license...but hey its all back again...
