Can they?

If so, Mrs zcacogp is about to get 9 years NCB, and the job of filling in the family transport insurance forms ...

Yes. I only found out because a salesperson was particularly hot on it, and when my quotes came through unfavourably she immediately suggested doing it.

WARNING: Most people don't know you can do it, be prepared to push it with the salesperson. When I rang back to place the order they promptly told me it couldn't be done. After asking them to check with their manager about 18 times the deal was finally underwritten. Whatever they say the vehicle does NOT have to be registered in her name, just the insurance policy. Another favourite was that the policy holder must do more than 50% of the driving, again this is only the case if you're not married.

At last a decent reason to stay with the missus!

Oppss - bang goes my theory.

Looks like you really do need to keep to 20mph over that bridge.

I'm no expert on SPECS, but isn't it only a number plate recognition device coupled in with a stop clock type idea?
I wasn't aware that they actually took photographs per se...
I wait to be corrected.
They record the start and end "frames" from the camera for each offence for evidence.

They would have to do that to obtain home office type approval and for the evidence of your speeding to be admissable in court.

The worst bit is that, assuming I get 3 points and a fine, it will bring my total points to 9, making my situation untenable with regards insurance, so I will have to give up my dream, just because on my own stupidity.

It may not be so bad. Are insurers too worried by SP30s, even 3 of em?

I know it's completely different, but our fleet insurers don't even want to know about speeding. They're just bothered about the more "meaty" offences (IN10, DR10 etc)

I agree. Shop around, I've got 8 and elephant.co.uk didn't seem to care. If you're married put the policy (not car ownership) in your wife's name. Spouses can transfer NCB whenever they like, I insure a 911 turbo for £950 with 8 points, no NCB because 2nd vehicle, and a £40k total loss two years ago.

Well, we'll see. Renewal is not due until June, so I'll se if I can put off the whole thing until then.

Also, got a quote from privilege yesterday with current points that doesn't look too bad, so we'll have to wait and see. Trouble is, I get the worst of all worlds... expensive group 20 car, kept on the road in SW17. Still under 30, still not married, doing some driving to and from work. Heh, but maybe I should rent a garage?!? Would that help?

Garages always help, but debateable if you'd save as much as it cost to rent it.

For anyone who's interested, a final update on this one....

I believe (hope against hope!) that enough time has passed for no further action to be possible. I certainly would not advise anybody else to try this, but it appears to have just gone away. An interesting, if slightly bizarre, conclusion.

The signs are blatently obvious, though, on first appearance, there doesn't appear to be any reason for the limit.

Apart from the large world heritage site which is being damaged by fast moving traffic, the constriction and inccreased potential for conflict with oncoming traffic.

specs have been on tower bridge for over a year, very obvious camera gantries (in daylight). apparently the bridge was getting damaged due to the ridiculous amount of traffic, to be honest i believe that, you can feel the whole thing flex when a truck or bus goes over. no excuse for the whole ramp either side to be 20 though.

I can confirm the NCB transfer situation. As I'd always had company cars, didnt have any NCB, so always got wife to insure my vehicle. Then decided I'd really better have my own NCB, and the ins co. (Swinton I think), suggested that I transfer my wifes 9 years NCB to me. She retained her own NCB on the other vehicle (insured with a different company), hey ho we're all happy!

If your mate has been caught 4 times in 3 years maybe driving a black cab isn't the best career choice
