Discussion
Hi,I was stopped this evening and cautioned about my English flag on the left of my number plate!!, I was told that as I am now a Citizen of the EU I am only allowed to have the EU Flag on there!, I undersood that to have the English Flag is ok?, I am being prosecuted for this "offence"!, the Officer said! as we are all now Citizens of the EU!, he then ranted about Great Britain being no more, said "you are no longer a British Citizen at all and now come under EU Law", is this right then?, I will await the Summons then shall I?, what should I do in the Mean time?
any help greatly appreciated btw!

Iam, in my book, you are Not Guilty:
Reg 16 Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, EC Regulation 2411/98:
An approved EC international distinguishing sign may be applied to the extreme left edge of the plate. Only GB is permitted.Such a plate is called a dual-purpose plate. This is the stars on a blue background with GB.
But
The Government announced on 28 December 2001 the intention to permit the display of national flags and symbols on vehicle number plates. When the regulations are amended they will provide for the voluntary display of the Union flag, Scottish Saltire, Cross of St George and Red Dragon. Football team crests etc are not allowed.
Not yet come up with the amending Reg but will try and find.
...nope cannot find the amendment but the press release about this by Dept of Transport is at

21. Can other symbols (e.g. national flag, football team crest) be used on number plates?
