from doing 60 mph in a 40 zone with an excuse he was late for his flight.

How may PHers have been let off for a similar offence? Do you think he should have been give the points and a fine?

Depends on the road and conditions. Might have been completely safe, might have been total lunacy. I wasn't there so I don't know. If I had my own personal detective I think I'd use him to get out of it.

I can image the conversation now..

"Sir, did you realise you were speeding?"

"Yes, but my Mum is your boss!"

"Yes Sir, very funny, what's your name sonny?"

"His Royal Highness Prince Andrew."

"Oh bugger!"

Saw a picture of him in the papers today - he looked proper fing wired!!!

All that said, being a royal, he's clearly a much better and more worthy individual than I and therefore it's only right that he's let off..

Seriously, the more this 'one rule for them another for us' shit happens, the more the general pube-lick wil turn against cameras and coppers as a tool of oppression... in short, it's a brilliant way of turning the public against their speed-kills shite.

You'd have thought the Royals would be a bit more careful in cars these days, wouldn't you, after a "professional" driver managed to top one of them.

Sounds like he was arsey - I'd have locked him up overnight and let him cool his heels.

If the chap was in an "endangered position" he could get away with it.......
BUT FFS he was flying to Muirfield for the GOLF!!!in an OHMS jet!!! Queensflight no less!! I'm sure somehow it would have waited........ Fine the bugger and lets have some equality!!!!
It is this attitude that gets Joe Publics back up when we read about this and then have to swallow the garbage that BLiar and his cronies spout about "speed kills" and other such simplistic socialist rubbish and put up with electronic highwaymen and that ilk..... makes me F*****G MAD

Agree JSG - a night at His Mother's Pleasure would have chilled him a bit - unless he got banged up with Mr Big (mind you, he was banged up with Mrs Big for a while, so...)

It is worth remembering though that every member of the Royal Family is trained to the same standard as Police class 1 drivers. I suppose it is a fact that he is better trained and qualified than the rest of us to assess if his speed was dangerous or not.

obviously the traffic cop wasn't a republican - but don't worry, they'll all be against the wall when the revolution comes ;-)

Friend of mine got done for doing 80 on the dual going to Stanstead airport. He was running late for his flight - and subsequently missed it because of plod who was very unappologetic - and he's normal(ish). Good to see that the dual standards in the law still remain.

Got money and power - get away with whatever you want. And the police wonder why they are not respected anymore - funny thing is that it isnt the police, its the courts and government. Still, at least they can get to feel what it is like to be picked on then.

Cheers,

Paul

Everyone is missing the point of this.

For Andrew to have been let off clearly the speed limit had been set wrong in the first place, clearly it was safe to do 60mph. What is disgusting is other drivers receiving points for lower and similar technical offences on the same stretch of road and other roads where the limit has been set too slow for political social engineering reasons.

DAZ

If it was not safe to do the speed I would expect to see the senior officer who gave the don't charge him decision dismissed with no pension, before he takes sickness leave due to the stress of this whole non-event!!

Prepares fire extinguishers...

On whether he should have been done or not that is down to the officer on the scene at the time. I've been let off for 72 in a 60 with a stern talking too. Made me think.

If we remove this discretion we would complain more bitterly than we do now. Additionally it would perhaps slow us down aswell, 'cos in the back of our minds at the moment we know it exists and play the game a little.

What really gets me though is the sheer arrogance of the man that his security gaurd spoke to the policeman. Next time I'll get my passenger to go out and speak with plod rather than myself. I can see that going down with bang !!

I'll get my fire resistant coat and be off !

Whether or not he deserved a ticket, if I has been done for a similar offence on the same stretch of road I'd be mightily brassed off at this.

If it was safe for him to do 60, why is the limit 40?

I remember a few years ago, seeing him late for a dinner appointment at Windsor Castle with Mum. It was Ladies day at Royal ascot. A very complex one way system is implimented at 1100 hours everyday to cope with the huge volume of traffic that comes to the race course. He got to the A329 roundabout junction with A332, instructed his PPO to move the barriers out of the way and then headed contra flow throught the one way system, causing chaos. The duty traffic Inspector was furious and went to the Castle to deal with the incident but was stopped by the Chief Constable who was at the races that day. The Chief dealt with the incident but we understand that no prosecution was undertaken.

The following year, I witnessed him enter the driveway of his estate, after being warned that a vehicle was coming down the drive towards the road, over the radio. They always call up when 2 minutes away from the house so as the automatic gates are opened prior to his arrival.

His PPO called up and told us of his ETA and he was informed, Be careful there is an outgoing car on the drive. He was in a large Daimler double six.
Needless to say he didn't and cut the corner of the driveway on leaving the road at the usual brake neck speed he drives and totals the Nissan cherry that one of the grooms for the Polo stables was driving. Fortunately she was not injured but he went into one blamed everybody else and stormed off threatening retribution.
Fortunately for him the collision happened on his driveway and not on the road.
