My number plate has been cloned - who do I contact?
Discussion
Hi,
Had a letter today from Central Motorway police group saying I was driving on the hard shoulder in Birmingham when it was closed off at Midday on 15/3/15. No action will be taken on this occasion.
It was Mother's day and I was with my car at a restaurant (with my mum) about 130 miles from the M6 in Birmingham.
Who should I contact - obviously whoever has cloned my plate doesn't give a st hence driving on a closed hard shoulder and probably more offences to come in the future bearing my details.
Thanks

Not a lot you can do at the moment other than be prepared for more letters like this and possibly the odd NIP. Also I wouldn't rule out the possibility of pulled over by an ANPR-equipped car.
You might want to take to checking in at certain places on Facebook as these will help show you location at certain times and dates.

I've reported it on 101. I'll ring the DVLA Monday. My number plate is only 3 characters so its a deliberate act.
I suggest you write back to whoever in CMPG issued the letter as well. Then you'll have documentary evidence rather than just relying on a phone call.
Be aware when contacting DVLA of the possibility of your current VRM being withdrawn

My plate is four characters and I had a similar thing with a fine for parking on a zebra crossing complete with photo of a Porsche 911, my car at the time was an m coupe. The camera operative's glasses must have steamed up at the excitement of nabbing a 911 as they managed to get one of the letters in the plate wrong.
