Wset Midlands Scameras
Discussion
Am having a highly productive morning in the office, doing a bit of a trawl of the net and found this website
www.wmsafetycameras.co.uk/survey.php
The results of their own survey must be slightly embarrasing!!!

(I'm not defending them...just pointing out the obvious)
I agree, you've got to applaud them for displaying results that prove they have very little support from the average motorist (whose best interest they allegedly have at heart) .
Then again, they're in such an invulnerable position that what people think of their policies doesn't really matter. The safety partnerships will look on results such as these as more proof that the average motorist doesn't know what's good for them and as such requires more nannying.

Yep Folks! The vote is still active so get voting all.
Ooops just voted again
The vote numbers are still increasing.
click on "the cameras" in the blue strip near the top. Then click on any part of the map. You will then see a vote "yes" or "no" on the right of the screen. Happy voting all!

Just sent.......
Dear Sirs
I would like to point out that the reaction test on your website speaks volumes about your opinion of the average driver and is a reflection of your simplistic view of road safety.
My son and I can easily average less than 0.25 seconds i.e. off the table. I can’t imagine why you should think the table needs to extend well beyond one second reaction time – except that you have a deep misunderstanding of the abilities of the average person. May I suggest that some of you in your office give it a try? Though no doubt working as an extension of the Inland Revenue must send you a little comatose.
Best regards

I am correct in understanding that you "do NOT believe that cameras are just a way of getting money from motorists"
So, further to this, you believe they have a positive benefit to road safety and in fact reduce the number of fatal and seriously injured type accidents?
If so, can you explain.

Hiya Bladey..
I believe that speed cameras DO have a positive effect on road safety.
However, I only believe that is when they are placed in the appropriate locations, where RTCs have occured and SPEED is the main contributory factor in those collisions.
I don't agree with hidden cameras. I don't agree with cameras on very straight roads, with no overtaking opportunities, no junction, no bends etc.
I know professionally of camera locations in my force where the numbers of collisions have drastically dropped since the introduction of both fixed cameras and mobile cameras.
Now these sites still have the same volume of traffic, the same style/ages/experience of drivers in the same vehicles, yet collisions have dropped since the cameras have been installed.
I know of many locations where the cameras can only be interested in revenue as the safety aspect is painfully missing, and that detracts from the importance of the other cameras.
I do however, feel the Government of the day is also impressed with the revenue that these cameras now generate and they get a double edges win. They appear to be interested in road safety and also get a return on their investment.
I feel the lack of Trafpol numbers as a result is disgraceful as camera placements can only really benefit road safety, when used in conjunction with a properly equipped, staffed, motivated and valued Road Policing Unit. The unit which detects driving offences like Due Care, dangerous driving, no tax, no seat belts, road rage, tail gaiting, middle lane hogging etc etc.
