[I tried to post this earlier, and I think I ended up posting it to General gassing twice by mistake]

I've dug up official policy statements from the main political parties and
published them to a new Safe Speed page:

www.safespeed.org.uk/election2005.html

It's perfectly clear to me that only the Conservatives have the foundations of
an intelligent road safety policy.

If anyone has further information that should appear on the page, then please
send it along by email. As news items become available I'll post them to the
page.

Christopher Booker, in today's Telegraph suggests that road safety is off the
agenda because it's expected to be devolved to Brussels. (link on Election
2005 page).

It's going to take a great deal of work to get road safety onto the political
agenda, but I'm going to try. I'd like to be in London making a fuss in the
last ten days before the election, but there would be a lot of expenses and
presently I can't afford it. If you want to support such activity, send a
donation or join Safe Speed urgently.

bump......

I've voted with my wallet. Go get 'em Paul.

To the PH collective:

Just for once, spend your money on this worthwhile cause, instead of your usual weekend blat/cruise or evening pissup; it'll make you feel just as good, I promise

Paul's campaigning may save you so much more in the future.
This is a sound investment, surely all PHers agree?

Please support the Safe Speed campaign

I'm asking my bank to support Labour through a proper level of donation. Howard's latest idiocy is to require a bond to be paid by employers when they employ an overseas member of staff.

We employ from all over the world, and wages are a very large share of our running costs. tying up half a year's salary for every foreign employee indefinitely will harm the city, and harm Britain.

I understand the desire some people on here have to change the government, but I am afraid that there are some well funded people who are hortrified at the thought of what might happpen to the economy if the tories get in.

We simply cannot afford to let it happpen.

I understand your concern, but as far as I can see the best thing Mr Brown the Chancellor has done in his eight years is give control of the interest rate to the professionals at the Bank of England.

That is the one shining light in the Labour time in office, in my view.

Provided the Tories keep the same system of Bank of England control, and they up the mway speed limit to 80 mph, and they "review", whatever that means, all speed cameras, then they have a strong case for my vote.

Taxes will go up soon after the election anyway, who ever gets in.

What, like it could be worse ?

You are aware Blair & Brown are operating a pyramid scheme, aren't you ? Pensions, PFI, the innumerable Quangos .... you name it, it's not paid for.

I presume Howard's idea is twofold (i) to stop people using foreign labour who will work for peanuts (ii) to stop the rather dodgy "import and lose" occurrences.

I guess it depends on peoples circumstances and I can see some benefit in applying a bond i.e. protect peoples jobs in this country by making it less attractive to send work abroad. To me it sounds sensible and pro the british work force, personally I think it'd be better to get all those lazy f'ers who don't want to work to do something for the benefit they receive.

Sorry too far fetched. When your Bank has the CEO standing next to his hat strumming away at Canary Wharf tube, then I'll believe it.

Have you not compared the (good) state of the U.K. economy when Labour took over from the Tories in 1997, with the current state of the U.K. economy?

It would appear that you haven't, otherwise you would not have made those statements.

Relevant to the Election and motorists is the ABD's

fuel tax calculator

At over £50 per week and equivalent to nearly 4p in the pound on income tax it really made me want to hug our beloved politicians

I really want to support but I'm a student and I'm skint and I don't even have have a credit or debit card. If I did I'd still try and donate as I think that's a really noble thing you're doing for us Paul.

I'll try and support you're campaign in other means though.
