180 million quid at £10,000 a car [ full discount], and £20,000 a year for someone to sit in it, gives 3,000 patrol cars for a year nationwide.
If you pay someone 20000 credits, the cost to the employer is probably the same on top. Heat, light, secretary services, rent etc (especially in a public company)

You might be right, but I doubt it. 20K for heat, light, rent and a small %age of a secretary sounds a lot to me.
Even if my numbers aren't exactly correct, I think my basic point stands anyway.
Maybe 2,000 or 2,500 cars ?

when i found out that the NHS have 395 ambulances
Where are you referring to? London alone has 400 emergency ambulances (plus 5 SCBU and three paed emergency transfer units) nearly 200 PTS vehicles and a ferry load of other motors...
ps- i also found out that the police were using norton m-bikes till the 1990's - now they use boring honda's - oh how very 'ordinary'
[it'l be boring boxy volvo patrol cars next !]

It's the other add-ons, like NHI contributions, pension funds, management etc. that double the cost. Plus, you forgot the running costs of the cars
so probably 1,500 patrol cars! Bring it on!!! But don't forget to get rid of the scameras.

We are losing about 40 bikes at work as a cost cutting exercise.
Motorcycles cost more to keep on the road than a Trafpol car.
an i wonder why a car is cheaper than a bike to keep running, as i would have thought a bikes fewer components meant less needed replacement over time than a cars?
ps- i sat on that 1990s norton police bike at the BMH museum last year, an wondered that if the uk-gov had given norton a rolling contract to supply all uk police bikes, then that would have been enough to keep them afloat as of today...true...?
[i'm guessing 1 new bike made as a replacement, per month, as a min to breakeven]
TVP has around 200 Astras.
77 marked omegas / vectras
35 Landrovers
2 mobile police stations and one boat.
And god knows how many corsas.
Each astra generally covers 125,000 miles in 2 years on average.
All servicing and maintainance is done by our own techies which are vauxhall trained at 3 workshops i think.
