M275/M27 users Pompey Way
Discussion
I've come back for more!!
The problem southbound is that when joining the M275 from the East/A3 direction that you are joining from the busier carriageway, yet have 2 lanes merging to one and then giving way to 3 lanes from the M27 - total lunacy.
When using the M275 north, the problem is not speed, but lack of it! There is always some numpty wishing to cruise at a sadate 60-70mph in the outside lane because they want to turn East in the single lane.
Grrrrr - numpties in charge!

I just returned from the M3 car park (bloody camper vans).
Well spotted DVD.
A b s o l u t e . b a s t a r d s !
I use this road several times every day so I know it well (only yesterday I did over 120 on it, now was that mph or kph?
).
I’m usually very intolerant of lane 2/3 numpties, but I’m more than happy for everyone to stay in the right hand lane when joining the M27 because it’s a dangerous bottleneck; I’ve seen much panic breaking there. Why on earth the road engineers thought that it would be a good idea to have the single lane slip road expanded to two lanes with one of these lanes immediately merging with the outer lane of the M27 is way beyond me. No wonder it causes problems.
Yet they want to fix it by slowing everyone down? That is so mental!
A lower limit will mean cars will be closer together; this is inherent because cars will still pass through at the same rate. So what good could come from bunching up cars where two motorway lanes merge into one? Any sane person would instead do away with the left lane on that slip road!
Motorways with permanent 50mph restrictions - whatever will they think of next?
I think we all already know the answer to that, especially considering that most will ignore those limits.
There’s already a truvelo doing a roaring trade at Mile End road (a ineffective installation considering most KSIs here are pedestrians who should have used the underpass, I knew one of the statistics); I guarantee that any new speed cameras along the newly limited stretches will rake in even more.
Now their motives become clear!

Is there any complaints procedure that can be used?
"Stephen Ladyman
Minister of State Department for Transport"
The name says it all really!
"We welcome your comments on this site"
Pity it give a dead link
Fecking ekk
, I hope they haven't been scamering over the last couple of days had no idea the limits had changed, sure as you leave portsmouth it still has the derestricted sign as yopu enter the 275, nothing about 60mph
.
As they'ved lowered the limit how about going the whole hog and making the road the A275 as its one of only threee roads that actually come out of Portsmouth.

Will they ever get this through their thick heads?
Surely better to have enough leeway with speed to maintain space from the less competant road users than be forced cheek-by-jowl with them.
We have our own (worse) version of this sort of legislation in the E. Mids - it's called the A610 west of M1 J26 where a 50/40 limit has been imposed due to morning rush hour queues on the eastbound approach to the motorway junction (about an hour a day - not every day), people doing u-turns due to the queues (there was no crash barrier), a suicide off a high bridge, children playing in the road (a motorway style dual carriageway).
'Slap a low limit' is all these people understand. I don't believe they get out much!

I've seen a few drivers who I've thought might need to purchase the Braille versions!!!!! Why oh why waste our money getting them done???? oh yes out illustrious Home Secretary

I'm going straight to my MP.
I sent a virtual letter to Mike Hancock, drawing attention to the issues in my first post (in a slightly more articulate and polite manner). Here is his reply:

Dear Steven
Thank you for you email concerning the M275. I will make sure that your views are put before the City Engineer and his staff.
Although I will point out that the only way that the Tipner development can take place which enables a proper access to be taken into the development is if the speed is reduced down on the M275 to allow that access to be opened up.
The Department of Transport and the Police will not support it unless there is a speed reduction. If we are ever going to see Tipner redeveloped and the access has to be off of the motorway into the development and out on the northbound carriageway for people leaving the site, I know that there are going to be initial problems with this. I am sure that a number of people will have similar objections to yours but if the traffic management system is worked out properly, and it is properly signed and people are given adequate warning, I am sure it will soon settle down. I think it will then enable the city to progress the development at Tipner. If we do not do this, I think we will be in for an even longer wait to see that site developed. The job opportunities that it offers people in the city are far too precious not to at least try and get this done properly.
I hope this clarifies the position for you. I can assure you, you are not alone in your fears about the access and the changes that are going to be made and I know that every effort is going to be made to try and bring about a satisfactory solution with the least possible problems. Everyone is working to that end.
I am grateful to you for your comments.
Best wishes.
Mike Hancock
I agree that Tipner is in need of a facelift, but I don't believe this reason justifies permanent limit alterations to the whole area.
We shall see!
I know the M275 well, but I'm glad to say I didn't know Tipner existed...

However - sticking a junction there, between the 2 ends of the M275 is plainly daft - and will be exceedingly dangerous.
Oh well... no one will listen to reason!
