How do we know that they Only use Camera Cash for Speeding prevention ? I mean, I`d prefer the cash to goto car theft type crime prevention anyway... It is still Not really tackling the cause of the problem, merely targeting an easy 'solution'

I figure at the moment they have to spend gerneral police resources on speed detection systems. The money fron cameras covering this current expense in effect frees up cash for other purposes. So although technically it doesn't increase the amount of money they get to spend on other things (in terms of total budget allocated by government) in practice the amount they have to spend on other things does increase. Thats probably why they're so keen ;-)

if it's going to be privatised it takes plod out of the loop and becomes a self perpetuating job creation scheme that generates cash....any government would think they were on a winner with that

For those of you that haven't read it, check out the letter from the police office on the ABD web-site - www.abd.org.uk Even if you consider it a cynical view-point it should at least get you slighly concerned about the motives for speed cameras. Oh how I'd love to see central Government minutes from all the meetings they're bound to have had over this sort of thing..... Maybe then the true position would be a little clearer.

I think most of us have Always been cynical about the Motives of Cameras, why is it a Fine and not Community Service !?!? or some reasonable alternative ( read the Police letter on the ABD website - Scary stuff, worse than I thought it would be ) We need to DO something about it.
