speed guns

just had my coller felt and three points, the car infront nothing but i got pulled for 37mph

does anybody out there know how often speed guns have to be calabrated, because the both of us were doing 30 (well i was) i have heard that some times gun can be slightly out, has anybody any info please
The last thing i need is another 3 points

Depends on the type of unit /force concerned but ..... they are generally calibrated once a year by sending back to the manufacturer ...... they are then supposed to be checked on the day as well via a set test. In addition, when the unit is turned on it goes through a self check.

Just out if interest where did you get done for 37 ?

Reading this has reminded me: With a hand held camera used by traffic police. Do they need to catch the car up and give instant attention or does the film go back for analysis and fines by post.
The reason I ask is that I was going a bit 'over' on a dual carriageway on Monday last, but saw the car and policeman in time to brake and pull in amongst the traffic on the inside lane.

I think if its a handheld gun they have to stop you there and then and there has to be more than one of them, otherwise its your word against his with no hard evidence, they might try it on but it would get thrown out in court.
If its a lone bobby in the back of a camera van its a different matter because they have you on film.


the other thing to potentially remember is....

If you see a bobby in the back of a camera van and he zaps you as soon as you exit a corner, in theory if you take it to court you can argue the fact he isnt allowed to take a laser reading or a laser/picture if he has not already before `said` picture was taken had visual evidence that you were speeding in the first place... so basically all those poor sods who get zapped the instant they appear round a blind bend would get off if they argued it in court.

You do not need two officers to prosecute for speed with a reading from a Laser ......

If it was a Laser and not a 'camera' then it is unlikely you will hear anything - officers prefer to stop at the time. They can, however, report you in index but, as I say, if it's a normal traffic cop that is unlikely. If is was someone from a camera partnership and the pictures were recorded you may be unlucky.

You will know for definite in 2 weeks + a few days for possible delay of post.

do you know if they are cheaked on the day it has to be noted or any thing, im trying to prove the gun was out, so there is no test they have to do to prove the gun is working correctly????

and yes i did get done for 37
