It looks like there are going to be SPECS cameras in both directions on the 4 lane
section of the M60 between Junctions 22 for Failsworth Oldham and Junction 24 for
Denton/M67.

The yellow posts have already gone up.

Hopefully they will just be for the duration of the road works that I think are
there for the next 10 weeks to fix the flooding/drainage problems, but if not
there is no doubt they will be for generating revenue as it's very easy to get
upto speed on that wide flowing section.

Cheers.

I saw these last night - on the anti clockwise part the cameras are already installed on the posts - ready for the ca$h fest to begin. Twice a day I'm going to have to crawl at 40 (presumably) but don't mind as long as I can see the workers grafting.

J22 to J23
During the day Four lanes open in each direction, with a contraflow system. Two cross-over points will be built in the central reservation.
At night, 2100 to 0600 Sunday to Thursday and 2000 to 0700 Friday and Saturday, four narrow lanes will be open anticlockwise and one lane open clockwise. During these hours the clockwise exit slip road at junction 23 leading to Ashton-under-Lyne will be closed. Signposted diversion using junction 24.
A temporary 40mph speed limit will apply to traffic moving in both directions throughout the area of the work and safety cameras will be in use.

Scheduled for completion mid October 2006.

"Throughout the works you may be driving on a temporary road surface, so it is important that you observe the 40mph speed limit" just for the 'I can't see anyone actually working' brigade

On the highways agency site it says these works are to replace the experimental surface material that was supposed to stop the build up of water but doesn't, and improve the drains, which I knew was a problem having used that bit of the motorway every weekday for the last 6 years, but.....

Has anyone else noticed that this surface feels very "jiggly" when driving at about 80mph in a hard sprung car? In my Seat Leon Cupra I always thought that my mobile phone was ringing in my pocket, but when I got my BMW I was convinced there was something up with the car and I got the balance checked.

I wonder how much this experiental surface has cost us tax payers?

They had ordinary Gatsos at the j8/j5 widening. Despite this - by all accounts that motorway flowed along nicely despite the work und the finished product so far has good reports too. Strangely enough all collision reported by "BEN" und "MEN" seemed to record incidents at the scam itself ind these seemed to nbe rear end shunts?

I do not know this stretch well enough to know if it warrant SPECS.. but perhaps they made no money out of the widening works

Travel that strech more or less every work day for the last 18 months during rush hours and it's prob the most free flowing part of the M60, in reality a great money earner for the scammers

All of the cameras have 'Camera is not working' signs on them now and the reduced speed signs are there too but covered.
From what I've read it seems like the majority of the lane closing and work is being done at night so does anyone know if the cameras are working then (at night), and if/when they will be switched on in the day?

I dont think the BIG part has started yet, but personally I dont risk it,
all's it take is for some one to "forget" to remove the not in use sign,
by the time you get the notice any proof is lost !!

Works start on Monday i believe and the TTRO (Temporary Traffic Reduction Order) is in force 24/7 as work in being done on the clockwise bit during the day, and digging up the cheap french tarmac during the night.

The 40 was in force this morning and it was torture sticking to the limit as it was quiet because of half term and 4 lanes were still open.

Yeh - nightmare - don't see why the limit couldn't at least be 50. I didn't see a single workman to keep safe - obviously just trying to raise revenue.....
