I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on some strange goings on on the M1 this afternoon...

I was proceeding in a southerly direction..... (actually driving one of the work pool cars, a 1.6 Seat Altea, rather than my Chim!) and just past Woolley Edge services, TomTom called a pair of mobiles on the junction bridge - had a good look, no sign of camera vans or cars on the bridge, speed check - quick but not silly - lift a little.
I get 200 yards past the junction, and a marked Volvo comes flying down the slip road behind me, with blues and flashing headlamps - I lift off and move from L3 into L2 behind the car I was starting to overtake to let him through.
Volvo comes up and keeps station 200 yards back from me in L2, "oh bugger", lift off a bit more and take L1, Volvo comes onto my rear quarter and indicates left, I indicate and pull onto hard shoulder and start to slow down, aiming to stop at a wider section 250 yards ahead.
Volvo stands on brakes and stops 100 yards behind me & switches lights off.
I stop, and wait, and wait, and wait.... Look over shoulder, look in mirror and wait. After what was probably 45 seconds, but felt like a lifetime, the Volvo lit up again, and pulled out past me, without the female driver even glancing in my direction.

After pulling myself together, I pull out, and a mile down the road, there is a tailback and matrix signs showing L3 closed - mile further on, there's a S.Yorks Police Range Rover and a Battenburg Volvo on the hard shoulder, dealing with a mangled van and Corsa, but no sign of the 'yellow stripe' Volvo that stopped me....

The only thing I can think is that perhaps she had been called to do a rolling roadblock to allow the accident to be cleared onto the hard shoulder, then headed off?

Any other ideas on what it was all that about? Can I expect something in the mail , or have I just had a lucky birthday present (my birthday today!!) from S. Yorks Police and the accident further on?

Wolley Edge is West Yorkshires patch, and it sounds like a West Yorks car that pulled you with the traditional yellow band. South Yorks are battenberg.
Would guess they got called off elsewhere
