Ok guys something constructive from me for once
Since getting the porker I've been desperately looking for the "perfect" GPS/Radar?Laser detection/protection setup.

I've owned and used over the last few years a Geodesy, Geodesy+ (same thing just a software upgrade), Road Angel and lately a Snooper S6-R Neo.

The Snooper promises the full solution and in use is very good indeed, however, when you come to try to fit it into your car it's just plain fugly and big and clumsy, same as the Road Angel (which IMHO is the best of the GPS units if you're going to be chopping it from car to car like we do here at work).

So I've been reading about the RoadPilot from Geodesy for months now and finally got a demo of one last week.

All I can say is that in action, it's fantastic.
It does everything you could possibly want (short of launching a sidewinder at the cameras etc it detects ) and on top of this, if you want a solution to hardwire into your car it looks great and is a piece of p1ss to do.

I've bought the option with the Radar Head, that will detect handheld radar guns at long range and give you the added bonus of knowing what radar Gatso's are actually switched on (not that I'd recommend relying on this feature and speeding past ones that don't appear to be ).
It doesn't have laser "detection, but then again IMHO that's useless anyway as by the time you detect a laser gun being fired at you you're nicked.
Instead I've fitted the Snooper SLD920 Laser Diffusers.
These you can see in the pic below, in the intercooler intakes, but this pic was from about a meter away, from a couple of metres you can hardly see them at all

All in all it's very neat and tidy and all I've got to do now is concentrate on driving safely and not forever worrying about what's 'round the corner

The whole lot incl. fitting cost me a tad over £1k but believe me I'm a very happy bunny now it's all fitted

Here's the pics:

Now that is what I call a system - glad that it seems to work also. The convergence of the two types of technology does seem the way forward, just need the prices to come down a little for me...!!!

Looks like a nice install too.

Cheers,

Paul

Looks good - nice install in a nice motor!

How does it work at night, presumably backlit screen? If so does is it lit all the time or only when it detects something?

Ive had one of these in for about 3 weeks now and it is indeed the dogs nads! I was going to go for a Snooper S6-r but for the extra money this is a much better solution and I havent heard anything great about the S6-r yet.

Re the backlight it is permanently on. You dont notice it in the day as the LCD is quite bright but it gives a pale blue/green glow at night which is just right. On a side note ive noticed that if u wear polaroid sunglasses then the LCD becomes even brighter during the day!

Slight niggle with mine is that the mount has become loose so wont always lock properly when the car is cold. (The screen in the pics above comes off so u can take it out the car) its going back for a replacement next week which was no problem with Morpheous.

Where did u mount your GPS antenna AlanN?? Ive put mine on the roof for better reception but its a bit of a pain having to bring it back into the cab when parking in dodgy areas.

Ive also had to mount the radar detector on the dash for now as I couldnt find a hole through to the engine bay!

Anbody know where there is access to the engine bay from the dash in a Skoda Octavia 2002 model?? (Not quite as nice as the Porche but its a good car all the same!)

Thanks

Stu

Hi Stu,
Yep, expensive but excellent!

My Aerial is on the top of the dash, right up against the windscreen, no problems with reception at all.

My radar head is behing the grill on the drivers' sied of the car, it can't be seen but it picks everything up ok.

I didn't do the instal myself so how they did it I don't know, but they made a great job! (Herts Car Audio in Hitchin if anyone's looking for a top job to be done!).

I don't touch the mounting arm, just remove the screen to update/hid when parked.

Edited to say there's nothing wrong with Skodas...people who knock 'em have obviously not drive/looked at one for a few years

Alan, did they install the diffuser too? If so how long did they take and roughly how much would they charge? Thanks, Andrew

Andrew,
They installed the lot.
To supply the diffuser, and to fit both diffuser and RoadPilot was around £450.
I think the diffuser is somewhere around £200-£250 of this.
It took them around 4-5 hours, but on an "easier" car wouldn't take anything like as long.
Tell them I sent you if you're going to see them

Thanks Alan, do you let me have a number for them please? Also, did you get the impression that they really knew what they were doing with the diffuser? I understand that these have to be fitted absolutely right or they may not work at all!

(01462) 441188.

The mounting of the diffusers is quite fussy but not so much as you think, the heads just have to be reasonably in the area the gun is going to be aimed at (normally the number plate), although this does depend upon the "frontal area" of your vehicle and have to be level and pointing straight ahead.
It was quite difficult on my car as there was nowhere to fix to that wasn't angled in some way, so they made special angled blocks up on which to mount them

Hi Alan,
Sounds like a great setup (one which I might have to emulate ) I have a stupid question to ask , I have'nt been able to find any details of what exactly the "radar head" feature is..? On the "UK Speedtrap Guide" they mention something about linking up to a Bel 966 or 976 detector? Does this mean I have to buy a laser detector as well? Please excuse my ignorance, I've only just bought a car that can actually break the speed limit, so I have lots to learn

Cheers

David

PS That's a great looking porker

Thanks David

The radar head does two things really, tell you if a radar-activated gatso is "live", but most importantly, will warn you from a long way away if a handheld radar gun is in use!
It's a unit supplied with the RoadPilot if you choose this option (although you can also buy it afterwards).

I don't know about linking it up with other detectors.
