Reward
Northamptonshire Police are offering a £2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who blew up a speed camera on the A605 at the end of last month.
Discussion
Do the police always issue financial rewards for (technically termed) criminal damage cases?
If not, this would be a fitting illustration of somebody's priorities within that force.
Then again, isn't Northamptonshire particularly pro-cash cameras?
Here's hoping this latter day Robin i'th' Hood removes a few more of these insidious contraptions.

Go careful (seriously) by publishing quotes like this. You commit an offence under the Terrorism Act 2000 by making these comments. If another is blown up it could prove awkwards for some who advocate in public forums behaviour of this kind or under the section on fundraising for terrorism
a person commits an offence if he invites another to
a)Provide money or other property, receives/provides money or other property
AND
b) Knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that it will/may be used for the purpose of Terrorism
A person also commits an offence if he incites another to commit an act of Terrorism, wholly or partly outside the UK if committed in the UK would constitue an offence ofMurder, wounding with intent, poisoning, causing explosions, endagering life by damaging property.
The new Terrorism act 2000 says
The use or Threat of action where
a) -it involves serious violence against a person
-involves serious damage to property
-it endangers life other than the person commiting the action
-creates a serious risk to the health or safety of the public/section of the public
-or is designed to seriously interfere/disrupt an electronic system
b) The use/threat is designed to influence the Government, or to intimidate the public/section of the public. This criteria is not required where firearms or explosives are used
So our friend who is sending Gatso cameras skywards is well placed into the definition of a terrorist.
If you encourage, incite or even invite another to provide money for that terrorist, then you commit an arrestable offence. EVEN IF YOU DO IT AS A JOLLY JAPIST.

So just keep your thoughts to yourself and open another bottle of Don's cheapest Perignon.
Reminds me of that classic quote, uttered by the iconic corporate raider, Gordon Gecko, to an erstwhile innocent Bud Fox: "You're not naive enough to think we actually live in a democracy?"
Loose lips sink ships, certainly ito personal liberty.
Can MC give a personal opinion as to cash cameras?

They don't bother me as I am careful to not exceed the limits where they are likely to be placed. Unless of course I am at work when they are a complete and utter pain in the ar5e and I have even now taken to reducing my speed when on a blue light run, to under the limit through the camera site because it is a lot less aggro than setting one off and means I only lose a couple of seconds off my arrival time in any case.
I don't then have to spend hours trawling through control logs to attach it to the NIP when it arrives usually 6 weeks later in my paperwork tray.

Madcop, does the laughing smiley face not negate his comment?

That's what I would say for the ones in urbans areas of South Bucks/Berks, but go further afield. Try driving from Newcastle to Edinburgh on the back roads (Coldstream way - A68?). 60mph limit, middle of nowhere - really the middle of nowhere! and what do you get - Gatsos!
Why don't you just drive on the other side of the road when you're on a shout (where safe). Of course that doesn't work does it? you still get a ticket really don't you eh? wink wink
That's the approach I take with those particular Scottish cameras. T/.
The police and the courts take a very dim view of people larking about with home made explosives. A couple of fellas blew up a few telephone boxes (not to steal the money just for "fun") about 5 years ago and they got 5-7 years i the big house each...
I think they worry that people may get a taste for it.

B2 bombers and a squad of Navy Seals have been despatched to neutralize the Al Camera terrorist network believed to be hold up in some caves in Northamptonshire as part of the US global war on terrorism. An Al Camera spokesman Outlaw Bin Bombing has put out a statement on a sympathetic web site saying "fluck yo al anyfink I right cant be yoused aganst me cos no clunt can onderstand it anyhow"
