Heard on the grapevine last night (earwigging on a conversation between RPD officers) that in a couple of months Sussex are being loaned a Lotus Exige. It'll be silver, battenburged-up with a small light bar on the roof. It will apparently be able to function as any other traffic vehicle, except TPACs! I did butt in and ask if it was a wind-up, but no, apparently it is happening.

Can't wait to see that in the back yard, might have to put in for a short RPD attachment when it turns up.

Any other forces have particularly unusual vehicles on the fleet?

No specific knowledge.

However most cases they are loan cars (i.e no cost things) or are being used for a specific publicity reason or event role (as an attention grab at events).

I do not see it would have any practical application. It can't carry prisoners or kit and would be highly uncomfortable in stab vests etc.

Sorry I am not being serious about why they have it on this part of the post there will be some reason to do with events or something I am mrerely 'playing' around in an effort to show a bit of humour and that I can take a joke so please someone do not like last time I made such a comment take it at face value and go into one about bib taking the censored etc etc

Can see it now, stop a car. Cops climb out. Car shoots off, cops fall over themselves whilst trying to get back in.

I've tried an Elise once and couldn't get on with it due to it's size. hehe

Should get a VX220 turbo - better performance, cheaper to buy/run/insure.

Bloody badge snobs.........

Lets face it, it's only going to be used as a promotion vehicle. It will never see active service, it would be too dangerous. The first TWOC'er it chases will just reverse into it and smash it to pieces, and probably kill the coppers in it.

That's not what the RPD officers were discussing amongst themselves. Granted no TPACs, but ok for the rest. No room for any kit, so I don't know how they'll get around that one!

I bet they get piles and hate the car after about 2 weeks. A much nicer car to talk about all day than to actually be in all day!
Uncomfortable cops thats all you need if you get pulled over they'll be taking as much time as they could blabla just to delay getting back the panda car..

To be fair, if it came to a pursuit (assuming the thief/driver was suitably wearing his FIA Approved crash helmet and seatbelt, so he can be chased), then I suspect a Lotus will be quite good at keeping up in towns etc, as they can make up a lot of time on roundabouts etc by simply not slowing down !!

Then the chasing plod can simply notify a unit which has a back seat where the car is to intercept and arrest?

It could be a lot worse - a few years ago our local plod trialled a Smart 2-seater in full police livery. The sight of two large blokes wearing their stab vests etc shoehorned into it is something I wont forget in a long while laugh I only saw it once so I guess they decided it was inappropriate.

Makes it easier to catch scrotes though, they are too busy laughing at the plod struggling to get in and out of the car to run away....
