any body know how these work as ive been done by one and need to know how it knows your speed. ie a mini is smaller than my mondeo so the mini at 40 will pass over the sensors faster than my mondeo i have asked the manufacturer to supply info (if the sensors are put in the road wrong how do they calibrate the thing).ps they are taking me to court for not signing nip and not signing replying to request to sign ,I have letter from them saying they received the nip with info but unsigned ,dont they know the law?.
any advice welcome ps my first forum

The website for Truvelo, with details on how they measure your speed is here www.truvelouk.com/speedmeasurement.phtml
I think the 'Not signing the NIP' defence will result in a court appearance, and is only possible if the prosecution doesn't have any other evidence. They presumably have a frontal shot of you driving the car, so I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you might be getting a fine and the points after all.

this is my request for information from truvelo uk.
Hi I have looked on your site and am unable to see how your system works .can you explain the following .
1. how does your system cope with different size of motor ie a mini is smaller than a rolls royce .
2. are the sensors fixed at an exact distance apart in the road
3.what do they display on the film a test picture would be nice
4 why dont they catch motorcyclist
5 do you have a list of camera sites you have installed
I look forward to your reply
they told me to contact safety partnership or police .
my reply to them
Hi I requested the information from you because you are the seller manufacturer of the equipment .So can you please supply the rquseted information or a valid reason why I cannot have it!.I may request the information from you by solicitor if I have to but I hope not.
this is the reply from them
1 Size is irrelevant speed counts.
2 Yes.
3 Date, Time, and excess speed. We dont have a test pictures they are the property of the system owner or operator
4 They do.
5 Yes.
if you require any further information please address your enquiry to your local safety camera team or police force once again the same fob off !!!
the supplier manufacturer has no test pictures what a load of shi*e ,are they telling me the police bought the system with no
pictures, how can they dig the road put sensors down lay hot wet tarmac and say the sensors are in a exact position. I requested pictures because another one of your posters was done at 39 in a 30 and his cars in the same place as mine at 46 in a 40 relative to the lines in the road explain this to me?.If plod is getting local builders to install sensors in the tarmac I bet thay are all over the place. No explanation how they catch motorcyclists with no numbers on the front any one care to guess.these are a total scam to catch all of us out .any one know if northampton have a speed awareness course as I am to use this in my defence the fact that they never offered me a course only points and a fine all in the interest of safety of course .I will try to keep you all up to date in court 21st august at daventry .

I don't prefess to be a Truvelo expert, but i had an incident recently where i thought i was done, so did a little research.
The length of your car is irrelevant!! That is the first point. The Inductive loop ( ie dodgy cable buried in the road) is supposedly exactly 1.8 metres from the three white lines painted on the road. ( this applies for a 30 mph zone). They are slightly further away according to the speed limit). As you pass the inductive loop... four horizontal cables, easily seen as four lines of tar... your car will register as a magnetic force on each of the cables. By calculating the time taken between registering the magnetic influence on each cable the average speed across the four cables can be established. If this is found to be over the speed limit then the camera should activate, , and the dreaded flash should be seen. The backup for this method lies in the 3 lines. If you travel across the inductive loop fast enough the theory is that any photo taken will show your front wheels lieing on top of the lines. This varies by a matter of inches for each type of car.. but supposedly the inductive loop is set to register a metal low enough to be around axle height. Therefore whatever the car, the axle will always be in line with the wheels, and therefore over the lines if you are speeding.
The secret if you get a NIP is to query the driver and ask for a photo. If the wheels are on the lines, then its time to swallow the medicine and cough up the £60. If not, then query the speed. All this info is on www.truvelouk.com but as i've spent the time looking i don't see why anyone else should.
I hope for you, ( as i hope for myself) that circumstances mean that the flash was not relevant, and that it was either not you that set it off, or was a 'rogue flash'. Fingers crossed eh??

So all we need to do is install a strong electro magnet around our front axle (easier said than done) with a variable strength in field.
When you get done by a Truvello just go to court and say "b
x your honour, I have this funky engine enhancing piece of equipment which creates an incredibly strong magnetic field".
Note: I'm not saying it will work!

The problem is you don't actually have the right to see the photo unless you are not accpeting the fine and points. It is only if you take it to court, that you have to be shown all the evidence that they will use against you.
The only potential way around this, if you believe that the offence could have been committed by one of several drivers, is to ask to see the photo to help you make up your mind (you obviously wouldn't want to nominate the wrong person
). I can imagine that they were reluctant to show Gatso shots, as it can be difficult to determine who the driver was. With a Truvelo shot, I would think they'd be only to happy to show you caught on candid camera.

Q4 why dont they catch motorcyclist
A4 They do.
No explanation how they catch motorcyclists with no numbers on the front any one care to guess.
And they are right. Truvelo's will happily take a photograph of a speeding motorcyclist, just as they would any other vehicle. However, once the film is developed it is only then that there is much scratching of heads as plod realise that they can't see a number plate so they don't know who to send the NIP to...
The only way they can actually catch a motorcyclist and successfully issue the NIP is when the camera has been turned around so it operates more like a Gatso.
So what Truvelo said is correct... but only to a point.

spot on with them m8 the photos are normaly shit.
all so we are playing the time and cost game
they dont all ways like to call you bluff even if it dose show you
if you got the bottel to go the distence.
as alot get bined due to time and cost for the local court
also they know there is a persentage of lo lifes like me
that cant and wont pay any way are a total wast of time to take to court.

...The Inductive loop...
Not correct
Truvelos dont use inductive loops - they use piezo-electric cables.
These are cables made with a piezo-electric crystal core. When a wheel drives over a cable it gets compressed by a very small amount and produces an electric pulse which is detected by the camera system. The system times the gap between the cables' pulses, knows the fixed seperation of the cables in the road, and calculates your speed. For each axle it calculates the speed from a combination of sensors and takes the lowest reading. If all the readings are not the same within a small limit the readings are 'binned' and no recording is made.
Size of your car is irrelevant

so your telling me that on a cold day the cables are harder than in the sommer when they are softer and more squishy so its not as good as they make out
I think you are clutching at straws now! The cables (and certainly the tarmac) may cause the actual voltage that is generated to change, but in reality that isn't going to affect the speed that is reported. Either it will trigger the detector or it won't.
Can I change tack slightly for a sec?
Not wanting to subsidise Red Ken by paying the CC, I've just bought a m/c (makes no economic sense, but loads more fun, and quicker to boot).
Am I correct in assuming I can go past a Truvelo taking frontal pictures at any speed I like and give it a two-fingered salute w/o getting a ticket?

As I make my living repairing electronic equipment and have done for over 20 years, some times clocking up 75k in a year no body can tell me that these money boxes are infalable .The space shuttles got five onboard computers and we know how safe its been, whats the law on painting these and playing fair?.any one got a photo of one from the top I think they have a slot for us to contribute.ps since I opted out last year I got a mondeo and its suprising how slower you drive I can get almost 40mpg and its an auto with cruise my last mondeo get 25 to 30 on a good day and was manual mind you it had over 20000 mikes on it.ps my avarage is 50k miles a year and I have never had an accident seen plenty avoided loads and seen some very strange driving so I guess a speeding fine and points should improve my driving .I have done an advanced driving course and these are what the scamera operators should push people into not points.like the ambalance drivers I too need a car to work take it away and the blood will dry up.this is a brill site keep up the work dudes ta ta for now.
