Not sure if this is the right section Mods? However, in a bleary eyed moment on Thursday morning, whilst reversing into a space at the train station, I completely didn't see part of a the rear fence post sticking out...and went straight into it.

I was late, so I gaffer taped the bumper on and managed to get home in the evening. I've just had a look and both the bumper mounts are gone..

see below - 2 black plastic squares above the exhausts.

Question - Is it legal to drive without a rear bumper? I'm going to have to get it to the garage which is about 30 miles from me and I don't want to pay for a transporter..

You don't need a bumper, unless it carries your number plate.

Plod might be interested if there are any metal bits protruding. If so, wrap them in foam/sponge and tape them up..

Would it fail an MOT ?
If not and it's secured it should be ok.

If I were you, I'd take the opportunity to remove those back boxes with some straight through piping.

I quite agree.

On topic, it's fine so long as there are no protruding sharp edges that could cause injury to people stood behind your car as you reverse (or those that you haven't seen and reversed into anyway... wink )

It's almost tempting... the strange thing is, a chap in the office across the street has an XJ8 with straight through pipes and it's always the strangest experience seeing and hearing it...

It just seems a bit incongruous, a Ja should whisper rather than roar...i'm simply not sure a Jag should make so much noise!!

Edited to say - there is no way to really keep it on, both the mounts have sheared (looks like corrosion has helped!). I don't think I'd trust gaffer tape to hold it all on + I might have to goto Heathrow and back on Monday. There doesn't appear to be any sharp edges,

Indeed. Sounds very chavvy.

But equally, it's the weediest sounding V8 I've ever heard....

A friend has an RS6 and the contrast is amazing! That V8 sounds simply fantastic!

Like you said (sort of), its horses for courses. Sounds like you have the beginnings of a craving for an Audi. smile

Not an RS6 though - having witnessed said friend's chew through about £8 grand so far this year...... £5k on a replacement gearbox, £1k on Tyres, £1k on front pads and diskseek, £1.5k on servicing.

In stark contrast my lovely old jag has cost the princely sum of about £1200 in the year...and that includes 2 services, 4 tyres, new pads and disks all round!!
