I was driving home minding my own business and then spot a Volvo T5 police car parked in front of the cemetery on the other side of the street. It was parked with the front of the car facing my direction of traffic. I now know its a 30 zone and I think i must have been going about 45/50mph so easily over the speed limit down the road before I spotted him which would have been too late. I carry on for another mile down the road, at slow speed and just go home. Then 10 minutes later, out of curiosity, I drive back in my other car to see if it was still parked there. The same police car had just pulled out of some traffic lights and headed back into its original position. I went to get some petrol and drive past again but the police car had gone. Half a mile down the road, next to traffic lights it had pulled out of before, the police car had pulled over a taxi driver, lights flashing etc.

What I just wanted to ask if, if the Police car was pulling people over, why did it not come after me, even if I had been clearly speeding. (Do I need to have been pulled over to have been caught???)

Do T5's have cameras on them to take pictures or any machine that will already have read my plate and logged my speed on the laser and then prosecute me on that, or do they have to pull you over to catch you???

He might have been doing some paperwork and not concentrating on the road; I see a lot of the BiB round here sat at the roadside completing paperwork, or reading the paper etc. I guess it's better for them to do it somewhere where it is going to be a visual deterrent rather than sat in a car park.

Maybe he was busy? It seems you were lucky. And, by the sounds of it, driving like a berk/teenager - most of our 30 zones are there for good reasons (not all, sadly) and you were 50% over?

I'll put my hand up to being a berk and young (but not teenage young).

Just had a sensor changed earlier in the day on my Elise and its made a huge difference to the car, not that thats an excuse to drive that fast.

Anyway, because I haven't been pulled over, does that mean I've more than likely got away with it.

or maybe you were driving safely and the police officer did not see speed as an issue in the area? Dangerous driving kills, not excess speed smile

Agree with that sentiment on A roads at NSL or quiet motorways, but never ever in a 30 zone. Too many things happening too close up to anticipate.

exactly, several roads by me have dropped from NSL zones to 30 zones for not reason at all yet have mobile speed cameras in place.

It was about 12:00 at night. What makes me puzzled is that I was quite blatently speeding yet I was not follwed and pulled over, yet when I returned later, the policeman had pursued and pulled over another car, before returning back to its original spot.

Just read on pepipoo.com that I can still be issued a NIP even though I wasn't pulled over and as long as there were two officers in the car, I can still get prosecuted frown

Perhaps he was looking for the other car, and therefore ignored you.

Could have been waiting for a particular car to pop up. We quite often will sit up waiting for a car to appear if its been involved in something in the area.

They could have been tasked to focus on taxi drivers that evening.

Years ago I went around a bend on the M5 at about 120 and right around the bend was a Police car sat on an observation post. But he never moved, so I can only assume his attention was focussed elsewhere.
