I'm a little confused about this - I understand the police did not follow policy by having the blue lights on - and according to the article tried to 'cover it up'.

However did the driver just not see the speeding blue and white...?

I see that they breathalysed him and gave him a 30 quid fixed penalty notice for his private plate as he was being prepped for surgery, 20 minutes after being cut from the car.

If you read down through the comments, the chap injured has posted. It's worth a read, not least to see how calous an inept policeman can be. Whatever that policeman's side of the story is. The 99.9% of decent Piloce officers must cringe when they read about the work of someone like this.

Ok, find me a link to a news story where British police officers broke the law while on duty and went to jail as a result. Considering how many police officers there are and the power they have it shouldn't be that uncommon for incidents to occur. Do they never push to far when behind the wheel or using physical force?

A DC I know was imprisoned for Death by Dangerous, until cleared on appeal by new witness evidence.

The number plate issue was quite funny, the Sgt who forgot to inform the IPCC visited me in the recovery room at hospital 20 minutes after they cut me out of the car. The hospital staff wouldnt allow him to take a statement at this time because they were preparing me for emergency surgery to plug a 30cm blood clott and stop my bladder leaking into my stomach so instead he decided to breathalize me and presented a £30 fixed penalty notice for the number plate.
