stopped by police who tried to stich me up
Discussion
I got stopped by the police today for some bullsh*t reason, they checked everything out and everything was in order but they contacted my insurance company and gave them details of my convictions. My insurance called me and tried to cancel my policy for not informing them of the convictions, I explained that these were spent and I was not obliged to make them aware of this.
The insurers have given me 5 days to make further payment to them or they will void the policy.
Can the police call my insurer and give them the details of my spent convictions?.
I've also explained to my insurers that the convictions that the police must of told them about are spent and under ROA 1974 I do not have to inform them of these convictions they are now saying I have to prove this, before Loonr1 says im a claims manager I should know I work in the home insurance sector and all I do is manage a team leaders to ensure they are managing their team members.

I am not an insurance expert or a legal expert, so this is just a stab in the dark from me:In my mind it is irrelevant what the law says, it depends on the terms and conditions of the insurance company.
If they tell you to declare any convictions or claims from the last 10 years, then you have to give them the information they request if you wish to do business with them.
If you don't want to do that, then thats absolutely fine, just find another insurer that only wants to know the last 3 years or whatever.
But your contract is with the insurer and you have to provide them with whatever they ask, without lying to them, otherwise you have broken the agreement.

That's the exact wording
Have you had any convictions, driving bans or convictions, driving licence endorsements or fixed penalties in the last 5 years, including pending offences?
In that case, what reasons did the insurance company give you when you told them that your claims/convictions were from over 10 years ago and therefore you didn't have to declare?Have you had any convictions, driving bans or convictions, driving licence endorsements or fixed penalties in the last 5 years, including pending offences?
So what does your policy document say about declaring convictions? If the conviction was for drink/drug driving then it stays on your licence for 11 years even though it's "spent" earlier than that so is that what you're talking about?
If you were less vague you'd get clearer answers.

This doesn't make sense.
The insurer asks you to confirm any convictions/claims in the last 5 years.
You don't have any convictions/claims in the last 5 years so you say you have nothing to declare.
The insurance company then says you owe them money because of your previous convictions/claims that you didn't tell them about.
Is that correct?

Yes it's like talking to a brick wall they won't listen so I'm waiting for the complaints department to call me next week after they have listened to the call with the policeThe insurer asks you to confirm any convictions/claims in the last 5 years.
