neighbor and working on car
Discussion
is it now illegal to work on your car in your own garden?
i moved into the house in Feb , the guy was OK but moaned a lot about people on the road about parking, i knew he was a moaning tt first day i met him,
about 2 months ago i was working on my car in the garden , i was hitting a ball joint out the hub literally 5 smacks and he put his head over the fence and said and i quote"you cannot do that to your car on a private residence , its not a garage or a industrial estate" i didnt reply but laughed really loud, he went back inside,
same thing 2 weeks later , replacing front disks and pads, had to hit the caliper off, same again, "ive told you you cant work on your car , its illegal" i asked if he knew the law and told him i can fix my car in my private garden if i like with a smile on my face.
next thing...washing my car with a pressure washer, he cam out screaming saying hes going to ring the council or my landlord as i shouldn't be doing anything to my car on a private residence .....
since then iv heard him banging alsorts in his garden , hes been smashing bricks up for hardcore , i came home from work one day early..he was washing his car on his drive!! the cheeky tt i looked at him but didnt say anything and he saw me ,
next thing ..Saturday just gone helping my mate change his shocks and springs on his e46 , he caught my girlfriend walking home with my lad screaming at her im taking the mick working on my car , and hes ringing the police...WTF
i didn't see him at all sat
last thing monday just gone, i was driving car down the side of house to the garden , his gate swung open and he was foaming at the mouth , i wound window down and hes screaming at me hes rang the council and it is ILLEGAL to work on my own car or make noises like on a industrial estate..i lost it but didnt swear at him
i rang the council in front of him to which the reply from council lady was i can do what i want within legal limits and can make as much noise from 8 till 8 basically , he screamed telling me the council lady is lying , i made a point of him smashing the bricks , hes always doing something with a electric saw making noise , his son lives the other side of me and he is fine doesn't talk much but is OK, his son had scaffold up and he was round 8 oclock smashing rendering off the wall for 3 days solid, i didn't complain about noise or when i had to sweep broken bits of render from my garden , he couldn't say anything apart from you cant work on your car , its not a garage or industrial estate i shouldn't have to live with this noise..,..
i work on my car or clean it on Saturdays as its only time im free, hes in his 80's i guess, but my god ive never had such a moaning tt , i feel like i cant do anything in my own garden , its come to the point where i think he will come out if my lad starts crying in garden , ive so far not sworn at him or punched him , but my god what else can i do bar argue everytime?? what would you guys do?

If you've bought the place just ignore him and his rantings, some people just love to complain and the last thing you need is a neighbour dispute that makes it hard to sell on the house.
If it's a council house then just keep a diary in case he tries to have you kicked out.
So far you've not punched him - for what talking to you??
You rang the council, what?
Just ignore the silly old sod and get on with your life.
I'm assuming this is a council house and not one you've bought?

oh really? so the new neighbours carnt be dicks then?? Is EVERY neighbour a dick? No. A small minority are. So your chances of having a dick for a new neighbour? Low.
Low chance, versus 100% guaranteed.
Look, you already know that small details such as facts don't bother him, so you'll never get him to admit he was wrong and leave you alone. You already know he's a raving hypocrite when it comes to noise, and just has a cob on against working on cars. He. Is. Not. Going. To. Change.
So what's the easiest, cheapest, and lowest hassle way to resolve this...? That's right. Move.

Ignore the fking bellend.
This is the best advice. Perhaps when he says he's called the police/council etc just say "fine, I look forwa to hearing from them". Just carry on as normal and let him burst a blood vessel. It might be worth engaging with your landlord or agent though, so that they don't get the wrong story.
