I don't suppose anyone on here works or has worked at Toys R Us?

As i'm after the MD's email addy (David Rurka?) & not surprisingly wink google isn't helping much.

Background Story:

Got a nice 'invoice' from G24 (working for Toys R us) for being in their free car park too long (63 minutes, when the limit is 45)

Reason being that, not only did we purchase some stuff (£30) but we we're looking at ideas for my son's birthday present (in a couple of weeks time) ...& as kids do, he was looking at & playing with virtually everything in there, from skylanders to scooters ...to bikes!

Now, normally i'd file under 'bin' & ignore ...but it's slightly complicated by the fact i'd only recently purchased my car & the 'invoice' has been sent to the previous keeper (DVLA records not updated yet) who isn't quite as savvy & is a little bit jittery

So it's probably simpler to get in cancelled at source hence the request. (& pre-empting the store managers possible response wink )

mods: please feel free to move to SPL if i've posted in the wrong place

How does the ex-owner being scared about it effect you? If they choose to pay it then fine, but they can't make you do anything so wouldn't worry about it.
1. Because i feel slightly responsible for the amount of threatening letters he's about to receive?

2. Because if i can spend 2 minutes, to save someone else a load of grief i will?

3. It's a friends f-i-l ...& i'd rather keep the friendship ta

So does he already have a letter saying they are after the money? if so then it must have been at least a couple weeks ago so why didn't you try to sort it before that?

Have you had the V5 through in the post yet, or has the previous owner had the notification that he is no longer responsible for the car?
Yep, already had invoice letter & fwd'd it to me.

No V5 or notification via post as yet but he has confirmation from the DVLA via phone.

Not sure what the DVLA have been doing ...purchased on Feb 23rd, offence on the 25th, he recieved the letter at the weekend.

It's not toys r us that you have a problem with, it's the parking company.
"which was parked on our client's property at: Toys'R'Us..." would suggest it is indeed to do with them

Not sure if this is useful but the above company profile page, has an 'email' link to David Rurka and their UK H/O address.

If you sign up free for 30 days, it appears you can email him from the link.
Cheers bud

Ill have a chat with the store manager later this week & update accordingly

Update:

Sent letter to G24 indicating that i was the new registered keeper, last week

New 'invoice' turned up yesterday (a bit quickly- so begs the question if they even bothered to check with the DVLA?)

Went into Toys'R'Us & spoke to store manager armed with 'invoice' & receipt for previously bought goods ...accordingly sending a copy of proof of purchase to G24 will stop them wasting their stamps, paper & envelopes ...i'm debating whether to bother wink

Update:

I went with Streaky's option 1 & contacted TRU direct ...using a fair bit of DBSV8's post as a template

...& finally got a reply:

"Reference: Car park fine

Thank you for your letter sent to our Customer Services Department, this has been passed to our Department as G24 is our vendor.

The rear car park at Toys R Us (TRU) is managed entirely by G24. G24 have as far as I am aware, always taken the circumstances of different customers into account when applying car park penalties. Customers who direct their comments re penalty Charges to G24 directly have found them to be very reasonable when dealing with genuine customers & genuine exceptional circumstances.

Regrettably the introduction of controls in our car park became necessary because large numbers of Sainsbury shoppers parked in our rear car park, often outside of the designated parking spaces and often in front of our loading bays.

I am sure that some Sainsbury customers & customers of other retailers use our front car park; however, this does not cause us the same problems as parking in the rear car park did. There is no limit on parking time in the large TRU car park to the front of the store, where, logically, all TRU customers would park. Our notices in the rear car park invite TRU customers to park in the front car park.

Within your letter you attached a copy of a receipt confirming your purchases I have contacted G24 & asked them to cancel your parking charge.
It is not & never will be our intention to penalize our genuine customers & hope that you will continue to use Toys R Us in the future.

Yours sincerely

Bob Knight
Security Manager"

So thanks guys! smile

...& now lets wait & see what G24 say wink
