National ID cards a moneymaker
Discussion
And, no, I'm not talking about the charge for acquiring one.
The Dutch introduced a National ID card on 1 January 2005. In a report earlier this week, some 50,000 people have already been fined for not carrying it.
Oh, and BTW, foreign visitors have to carry a passport, driving licence or ID card. As my driving licence is still of the pink peper variety, I expect that will not serve as an acceptable ID.
The fine is Eur 50 (~ £34).
Clearly, in the words of the Dutch Prime Minister earlier this yesr, they are: "cracking down hard on suspected terrorists"!
Sic transit gloria Mundi.
