Last year, there were 65,000 incidents recorded whereby a police vehicle was recorded as speeding without being on an emergency call (no sirens, no lights).

Less than 175 were prosecuted.

Maybe 65000 minus 175 had justifiable reasons!

/predictable post/

How can you possibly even attempt to justify this?

to my mind it make you just as guilty as the 'bad apples' that this always get's blamed on.

either admit that the speed limits are wrong or apply the same rules to yourselves as are applied to us...

and you wonder why there is a growing resentment of the police in this country?

as usual, the high and mighty try to take the high ground, and when they fail, they bail out....

problem is, there is NO DEFEBCE against the hipocracy of this situation, period.

evey time there is a thread like this, we get the same old bollox about how great the trianing is etc etc, but the police accident rate continues to rise way ahead of the overall acident rate.

I have said this before, but I will say it again, if you lot think your soo good, come and try racing against the rest of us, then we can see how good your 9 weeks of training was.

once again though, I suspect we will get all the usual rubbish about how racing is different, boaring, etc etc and other such excuses...

I rest me case....

once again, the high and mighty go off in a huff.

And before you do go off on one, just consider that I am not a 'hooligan' or serial speeder (clean licence thanks) etc etc.

I am just sick and tired of the same old b0ll0ck being trotted out by the boys in blue, both officially and in forums like this.

I pay a shed load in both direct TAX and council TAX to pay for you lot, what I and other expect is RESPECT and INTEGRATY, not high handed b0ll0cks.

Ian,

at last, a considered point, and well made.

For the record, I did not 'ask' Gone to go off on one, but it's exactly attitudes like his that di it for me.

I am not 5 years old, and do not like being spoken to as one.

I think it comes down to the fact that the public arent happy with the Government's rules but its the coppers who get it in the neck as the 'middle man'

Exactly....

and I have absolutly no problem with *any* plod that understands this too.

Gone went over the line IMHO by his stance that he is a driving god etc. (if you get my drift)

I have sped read most of the topic but.....

I have been hauled over the coals for complaints on driving, before i've even been able to explain, or try and understand when / where.

Dont have cameras on my division, but we are all aware that we have to set an example to others, No holier than thou speech.

Cant / wont try and explain for others, but when i was pictured speeding, i had to explain why, what job, why that speed, was it justified. All of this was examined. plus previous driving record and views from other officers. THEN and only then could i request that i use a dispensation to allow me to be released from the punishment. I cant speak for differnet forces, but this was 4 years ago in Thames Valley.

what i say is my honest and best opinion and not that of my current force and is given to allow those who read this forum the chanse to see a little more of Police Officers closer to home.

Robbo

I think that this is the difference between you being honest about your role as a plod, and others that seem to take pride in quoting the official line etc.

well,

as I started this thread, I better point out that I currently have a clean licence and have not been stopped for speeding in recent history - sorry if this does not fit your stereotype....

I think regards the rest of your post, you seem to be convinced that the rest of us are homicial speeding maniacs......

Where's he say that then?

I think the big problem is that a massive majority of the public want to drive at whatever speed they want. They see nothing wrong with it.

sorry, but I read that as we are all homicidal speeding maniacs.

bit harsh maybe, but I am sure you get the point.

getting back to the point of the thread, it's more about double standards than speed limits per say...

A final note.

A very close friend is being "looked at" for her driving. She is banned from driving work vehciles until the matter is investigated.

Would your boss remove your license if you got caught speeding or driving badly in a company car ?

personally, I think that would be somewhat an over-reaction, but these days, I think that I would not be at all supprised to find this happening...

for example, just look at how many HGV's are now being forced to do 40Mph on single caridgeways that before would have been doing 56 or so...why you may ask?

answer, cause these days with the speed police, they cannot afford to get the points, else they are out of a job etc.

whist I really don't agree with this, it's not me that is creating this problem.

to cober the other point about the majority etc. you should be very awaire that *any* servay will give whatever answer you want depending on the exact wording of the question and how it's presented.

for example, ask any resident what they think about traffic on their street and I garentee they will go on about people speeding, why? cause people are stupid and can't think out of their own little boxes.
