£120 Parking Fine Not Fine

Rise in parking fines under new rules

Motorists are facing parking fines of up to £120 under new laws, it has been reported.

It is feared that from next months new rules will set different levels of fines for different parking offences, meaning a huge increase in parking fines.

In London, motorists could face fines of up to £120 while outside the capital the maximum penalty will be £70.

More serious offences will warrant higher fines, such as parking on double yellow lines on important roads.

If you overstay a parking meter you’ll be hit by one of the lower fines.

The Government has claimed that this is a fairer system but motoring groups have criticised the new rules.

Nigel Humphries, from the Association of British Drivers, said it was a ‘scam to make money’, adding: ‘A £120 fine is ridiculous and over the top. It is part of the Government's anti-car agenda to make car use unpleasant.’

Why is it £50 more in London than elsewhere in the country? Surely the same 'offence' has been committed.

It's another good foot-shooting exercise and will seal their fate at the next election. The public don't like it and will show them when box-ticking time comes. With luck...!

Call me old fashioned but why park on double yellows anyway? Oh I think the lower fines if you overstay your meter are ok.
This is not a tax on the motorist, its a tax on the idiots who clog our streets illegaly parked.
I do think that they should have increased the number of carparks and made them cheaper though.

I got a ticket in a multi-storey in Harrow on Sunday.
£20 (rising to £40).

What infuriates me is that I'd actually bought a ticket... it was on the passenger side of the dashboard. Letter written, awaiting response.

They're headed for trouble here.

A lot of people will just pay a £30 or £40 fine because they don't need the hassle of argueing it.

How many people are going to roll over and pay £120?

So Red Ken has found another way to rape our wallets!!!

What an arse!!

I'm heading down to my local tank showroom and trading in my car - Fuehrer Livingston must be stopped!!

I was going to call in the A-Team, but their van runs on unleaded and can't afford to pay the gas prices AND the congestion charge . . . . .

I am into driving cars - not parking them (mine generally dont fit in the allocated bays in any case). If people park irresponsibly and cant be arsed paying to park - then they are volunteering for whatever the government throws at them.
Though I do think that all the 'foreign' motors that seem to be arriving with the influx of migrant workers are taking the piss. Ticket? they are unlikely to care too much!!
