The posts, in total, correctly summarise the position.

Despite having a "current" Test certificate, vehicle can be in breach of various requirements of Con and Use Regs and thereby offences in relation to use. Some of which, if present, can lead to further offence of selling/exposing a vehicle sale with defects.

All the MOT shows is that at the time and date tested if was street legal as to condition. An hour later this may have changed.

DVD is quite right. I don't even ask to see an MOT. If a driver is licenced and insured that's good enough for me. If I see an obvious Con & Use offence I'll deal with as appropriate. Usually the advice, "Get it fixed" suffices, unless motorist is really taking the michael.
The MOT is not worth the paper it is written on, and that is a view clearly held by the Courts. I'd say the average fine for No MOT is no more than £100. It is rarely prosecuted in isolation, and when Jonny Scrote is convicted of No Licence, No Insurance and No MOT, then the penalty for the MOT is very often, "Guilty - No additional penalty."

Its the only time that many vehicle users get anything on their machines checked unless they happen to be stopped by men in blue suits (and I don't mean quick fit fitters either )

But if the punishment for not having an MOT is basically a slap on the wrists the said users wont bother,as its cheaper etc

Seems to me the MOT only applies to society concious (sp) drivers

Some do, some don't.....

They also inject Heroin into the Femoral arteries, are we going to start doing that too?

Those that don't tax their vehicles, make it easier for the BiB to spot and deal with. Which always leads to other offences....

All about good against evil...You have to know which side of the fence you're sitting on..
