Travellers moving in
Discussion
OK - I'm trying to be really careful here...
We (Wife and I) live on a pretty remote farm between Basingstoke and Winchester.
We love the solitude and stuff - but there are drawbacks.
The wife saw a youngish dog running around the main road earlier. She went to investigate and a couple of caravans have moved onto land opposite the farm entrance.
We had this last year - it took 9 months before they were moved on (rumor they were given a council house is pure speculation)
So I suggested Wifey ring 101 (I may have somthing to do with the provider of this service)
Within 10 mins - Police turn up, a call back from the op wifey spoke to, a promise that it won't take as long this time
I will probably get s
t for this but will keep the Guardianistas posted tomorrow...

Get the local farmer (a) to spread some manure near the campers, then (b) blockade the one and only exit from the field, (c) tell the travellers that the only way they'll be allowed out is if they do not return. It's legal and it works!
A lot rolled up in a field up the road some weeks ago. Still part of our farm.A notice was served and they had their 5 days.
It was leading up to the racing at Newbury which is apparantly a gippo thing to do - stay in a field for 5 days before moving / being moved on.
We have ditches dug and telegraph poles across any access areas. They are not actually on the farm. They just think they are . :-s
We've had some lovely travelling types take over land at Beggarwood (Basingstoke) again, we walk past most nights and noticed bonfires on the grass each night (I think they're burning rubbish going by the toxic smell) and a rather large amount of crap there. I think they've had at least two weeks there now
A bit concerned that Hampshire is turning into a hotspot for them

If it was you or me occupying land illegaly I'm sure they'd have us off within hours, have no idea why 'travellers' get treated differently

You have my sympathies OP - they are absolutely scum - as low as it gets really. There are no 'decent ones'.
The Guardian reading liberals would love to think of them as romantic travellers bringing added colour to rural britain. Actually they are theiving, lying, cheating s
ts who do not deserve to share my oxygen.
And the reason so little can be done about them? They are a 'persecuted minority' apparently.
OP - they will leave you alone, but probably not until after they have stripped your land and property bare of everything that is not bolted (or welded) down.
Would be interested in seeing before and after shots of their 'campsite'.
God I hate those b
