Just wondering how much of case could be made. Just driving into London this evening. Off the lights gave the old E30 some beans, prob doing 45ish but autobox was holding the revs coupled with blowing back box making the car sound loud. Out steps a police officer in a luminous vest, asked me to pull over 'for a chat'. Pulled over at the next street to find 2x police vans, multiple police officers and some other pulled over drivers! (Apparently there was some operation going on that evening). Of course, proceeded to get a telling off (probably rightly so) for 'excessive speed', as well as the usual questions regarding car ownership, insurance etc. He also checked all the tyres. Anyway, he stated that since I seemed a nice chap (obviously doesn't really know me) and suitably apologetic he'll let me off. My question is - without a speed gun rating what offence could you be charged with since apart from looking (and sounding) as though you were going quickly there's no objective/recorded evidence. - Is 'excessive speed' (of unknown quantity) a possible offence? - Perhaps it would be driving without due care? Just wondering, thanks

In a 30 you can be 'done' by the opinion of two officers (although slight legal technicality that they have to see you at the same time).
No measurements, timing, radar, laser or anything else is required.

It was a fair pull, I was being bit of a t t (but I do think the car sounds faster than it is!). I did engage one of the other officer about the car, we actually had a decent chat about it in the time the other officer was checking the insurance details etc.

You picked a great place, what with there being hardly any Police in London at the moment.

In answer to your question...
1 officer plus corroboration.
Which means the opinion of another officer or by means of an approved device (laser, etc.)

Which means the opinion of another officer or by means of an approved device (laser, etc.) FWIW in context, except on Motorways, where no corroboration is required by virtue of s17 RTRA 1984. Streaky

Which means the opinion of another officer or by means of an approved device (laser, etc.) In this instance, there was only one officer that saw/heard me pulling me over. The rest were round the corner on another street (and to my knowledge there was no speed recording device).
