Buying something and then finding it's useless
Discussion
Apologies if in the wrong forum, not really sure where it fits.
If you buy a product from a shop (in this case a cordless grass strimmer) and then find out after using it that it's absolutely rubbish at the job and the previous cheap corded strimmer you own does a much better job, where do you stand? All shops I have seen state that products must be returned unused. Obviously you can't actually try the product out in the shop so what do I do when I find it won't actually cut my grass?

we bought the same item from homebase . it was rubbish , i cannot remember why now it has been a while . i took it bck and swapped it for a corded one , they did not challange me in any way , they just exchanged it
That's where mine came from. Thanks
I shall dig out the receipt and see what they say. Fortunately I still have the box.My boxset of Breaking Bad, series 2.
Episode seven is missing. It's listed on the disc menu, but when you select it, nothing happens. I've even put it in my computer and searched the contents of it, and it's just not on there. Apparently it's the one where Hank gets posted to Mexico and gets involved in a shootout, from what I can gather, in which all his fellow police officers are killed. Or something like that.
The most annoying thing? I can't find the receipt for it anywhere.

You missed a tortoise with Danny Trejo's head on it. Here's a handy pictorial list of the characters if that's any help too.Episode seven is missing. Bought a Flymo Hover Vac, a small lawnmower, as our garden isn't that big. Thought I could trust that buying a 'Flymo' meant I was buying a quality product.
What an utter piece of rubbish. Plastic blades that snap and just mangle the grass rather than cleanly cutting it. A hover mower that doesn't hover so you have to lift it over the smallest bumps. It won't go backwards because it falls apart and if you let go of it, it falls over due to the handle being too heavy for the body.
£60, used twice, now going in the bin. Spent £90 on a much better mower.

My mum's last lawn mower was a flymo, bought on the strength of the flymo it replaced (which was bought circa 1990). Turns out electrolux now own flymo, make cheap crap but stick the flymo logo on it to get sales from peole who think they are buying a quality brand. What an utter piece of rubbish. Presumably you mean rechargeable rather than cordless? I'd charge it up, return to the shop and take one of their staff to the nearest patch of grass to show them how useless it is - that's if they won't give a refund purely on your say-so. Shops are often far more ready to accept returns than you might imagine.

Fortunately I still have the box. When I worked in b&q on the weekends I used to return anything the customer didn't really want but might of used, mainly because I didn't care. I suspect if you go in to the shop on the weekend you will be met with someone similar to myself. Staff really don't care especially if your boring them with a long story. It doesn't work very well is good, or if you go when it's busy. This is broken il swap it for this always worked for me.

You are covered by the SOGA (1979) in the same way that you would be if you were sold a bicycle for your dolphin that turned out to be unsuitable for a small whale - the goods are not fit for porpoise. If you buy a product from a shop (in this case a cordless grass strimmer) and then find out after using it that it's absolutely rubbish at the job and the previous cheap corded strimmer you own does a much better job, where do you stand? Not cordless, but rechargeable eh? I hadn't thought of that, I was going to suggest a more powerful spring on the clockwork motor!
Of course... cordless would explain why it is crap at strimming - no strimmer cord, no strim!

I always regard rechargeable tools of any sort, as an alternative only to be considered if a extension lead is not an option.
I have 4 rechargeable drills that have batteries that no longer hold a charge - they at least get used where there is no electric supply close by. New drills have been cheaper than new batteries every time!
In general most big shops lime Hombase and B&Q will take back goods without question even with a very flimsy excuse why.
They'll just refund you.
Even without a receipt you'll still get a credit note most the time.
AFAIK this stuff just gets dumped into auction houses and flogged as job lots to market traders.

bought the same when I moved into my place with tiny garden. Its crap. I have found it works ok if you mow bone dry grass at least once a week or it gets too long and clumpy and it does not hover it up. I usually borrow my parents petrol flymo now. What an utter piece of rubbish. Plastic blades that snap and just mangle the grass rather than cleanly cutting it. I bought some loppers. I was cutting a 1/2 branch, and the damn things bent! They were very cheap (only a fiver) but I expected them to be able to cut stuff!
I think this is a police matter.......better get in touch with special branch...hehehe!!!Edited by pcvdriver on Wednesday 19th June 12:19
