I have seen a few other threads mentioning the laser component to the Road Angel playing up. I thought mine was working fine until I went for a 200mile blast last weekend and have a bunch of false alarms from the laser detector.

The only pattern I could establish was that it seemed to go off when I accelerated hard, e.g.

* joined a motorway and floored it
* overtook someone and floored it
* totally stationary pulling out of a side road and accelerated fairly hard

all in I had about 6 or 7 false alarms in one trip from the above circumstances, and despite the fact that I was accelerating hard, it was for a very brief moment and I was not over the speed limit when the alarms went off.

I recall someone posting that BlackSpot are working on a new laser module, that is due out soon. Does anyone have any idea if problematic laser modules (of the old style) will be replaced free of charge with the new style?

If we collectively complain enough i would think we might stand a chance - i have now given up on my laser detector

Ok,

I just phoned up Blackspot and spoke to a very helpful man who says they know about the problem and they are working on it.

It will be 2-3 weeks away. He agreed to send me a new one as soon as they are ready.

I didnt even need to raise my voice thats a first
a product that i'm happy with and good customer service I'm shocked i need a cup of tea now.

Cheers Pesty. I'll give them a call myself to ensure I am also on the list to have a new laser module sent when it's ready.

I still haven't fitted the RA to my gixxer, but am out and about on the bike this weekend so may well have a go.

I have had this problem with my laser attachment since I bought it. Mine is for the TVR and when i contacted Black Spot they advise that they are aware of the problem and were working on it. I was the one that posted on here before about the problem. They have told me that it is "noise related" but I cant believe my TVR is any more noisey that a number of others so I am not 100% confident the new improved version is going to work.

I was originally told the improved version would be with me in a fortnight and to call if i hadnt heard from them by then. The fortnight was up this week so i called to be told they expect it to be ready towards the end of the month. They are replacing my "useless unit" with the new one free of charge.

I have found their customer services dire over e-mail but A1 over the telephone. My advice would be to always call them.

On an aside, i have had problems updating my road angel too and still havent been able to do this yet. dont know the reasons why but suffice to say i am p*ssed off that i am working with "old information". going to see some mates that know a little more about computers this weekend to see if we can solve the problem.

shnozz, interesting that they feel your problems are noise related, as that may well be the answer in my case. It only happened when I accelerated hard, and boy does that produce noise from the 4.5 AJP8 lump in my Cerbera.

Well if its noise related I'm sure they could put some kind of filter on the unit and sheild it quite easily.

We will have to wait and see

i must say i find it hard to believe its just noise related otherwise how many other Tiv owners would be able to use the RA. Will be interesting to see if the "improved" version works. if not i shall be having a few words as the laser attachment was the reason i went for the RA over the cheaper geodesy unit....

I think they mean electrical "noise" rather than audible noise.
It may be something to do with the electrical supply not being "clean" enough hence, when you accelerate hard, the ignition system interferes with it.

Feel free to shoot me down in flames tho!! Lol

After yet another complaint to blackspot about mine they have sent me a new laser bit out interestingly enough it has a different lead which has an adaptor which blots down under the nut for the RS232 cable
