Plymouth Prowler Insurance?

I am looking to buy a Plymouth Prowler but need to know what insurance group it is, any ideas?
Also I want to know if there were any variations in model i.e different engine sizes, trim levels?

As an import it won't have an insurance grouping. Any specialist insurer will be able to quote you on it. There were a few limited number special editions (different colours) but other than that they're all the same as far as I can remember. Not a bad car, but fetch a fairly high price for age and mileage on exclusivity as opposed to performance or handling.

All used a 3.5 V6 also found in many other Chryslers so parts shouldn't be too hard to come by. Sadly, it's the V6 that really lets it down - what it needed was a V8 soundtrack. Initially, I loved these but after seeing a few at the shows in the metal, I couldn't believe how huge they are and I'm too short to see much out of the back. Watch for the peeling chrome on the inner wheel rims as chrome is very hard to paint over and new wheels won't be cheap.

Should add to try companies like A-Plan (who I use), Flux et al as most Yannks can be insured limited mileage for under £500 (dependent on age etc)

OK but promise me you'll try a Corvette C5 convertible at the same time...just for comparison purposes.

Worth bearing in mind that generally Mopar parts cost more than GM and Ford and the aftermarket is a lot smaller. I recall a comparo between the C5 and Viper and the costs were very high for the Viper and I anticipate the same will be true of the Prowler as they didn't make many.

Don't let anyone talk you into Clifford Cat 1 alarms and immobilisers that involve hacking the wiring . Companies like A-Plan will accept the car with the stock US security which is very good and, in the real world, where we drivers live, no-one ever seems to actually steal American cars.

The car will be garaged for most of the year and hate aftermarket alarms. I used to have a system that buzzes every time someone comes close to it. Every time I went in the garage, the alarms would set off.

I doubt anyone will be able to talk me into one. There is only 1 security device needed and thats a Tracker.

In other news I have seen a Prowler in London Motor Museum in hayes which I have fallen in love with.

I've only ever seen 3 Prowlers in the UK, one purple, one silver and one yellow so they're thin on the ground. Might be worth having a bigger choice and import one as they're often owned by obsessive Americans. I once imported a Corvette Z06 which was completely mint.

I will definatly have a look, although LMM has a black one and a silver one. I would love a yellow Prowler but may stand out too much. Purple does appeal, and the idea of having importing one seems for affordable than ever before.

There is a new unregisted one near me (right coast US) Purple.... it has a dinky little trailer with it.

I know they would love to sell it

Hi there. I have got a 2001 Orange Prowler and insured it today for £382 including recovery, homestart, European breakdown and legal protection. It would have been £322 without the extras. This is for a limit of 3000 miles per year and it would have been £420 had I wanted 5k miles cover. It is covered by Graham Sykes (www.graham-sykes.co.uk) and I had to make a breakdown claim last year and had no problems, while in France. You do need to be a car club member, but I've just joined the Plymouth Owners Club, which is a new affiliate of the one in the States and costs a bargain £10 per year membership. It only has 17 members so far, so if anyone has any sort of Plymouth out there, get hold of me and I'll send you the club details.

I have done about 4k miles in my Prowler over 2 years and absolutely love it. Yes, a V8 would be much better, but they never made 'em so that's that. Don't underestimate the performance though. 0-60 is about 6 seconds and they handle really well, having fully adjustable suspension all round.
