Had a bit of a hassle today, parked in a small car park with an access strip, due to some numpties parking against the wall, had a really tight squeeze to get out of the car park, no car park attendant as he was on an extended lunch break ended up hitting the uppermost car several times in my attempt to get out of the space, my car seemed to look ok, but as they was not parking in the spaces, what would the legal comeback be, should the owner have spotted me nudging his car and making say several dents ? my boot ended up on his passenger wing at the back estimated he was nudged 5-6 times, but made sure not to hit the car in the space as they were not at fault

Not answering your question but in the space you were parked in my vote would be for reversing into the space to give you some extra maneuverablity on the way out in case such a holes park behind you.

I appreciate you would have been angry at those two drivers but, with more care and a few more shunts to and fro, you should have been able to extract your car without damaging either of theirs. That said, in my experience it's extremely difficult to claim against a driver who does what you have done, even with a witness. It's not on a highway so police probably won't want to know and neither will your insurance company.

You collided with a badly parked car 5-6 times that was partially blocking you in?
Did you leave your details on the other car?

note the angry bit, did not hit it that hard as my car seemed ok, left it well alone, was wondering what would have happened if had dented the door badly and got caught could not find any paper and my pen stopped working for some reason.... edit:- took a picture, it is on a camera card, might look at it soon to check

Funny that. The same position as I found my car this evening in the railway station car park. Although it was bucketing down, I got out three times to check distances and angles as I manoeuvered out. Didn't hit a single car.
Two wrongs do not a right make.

yeah company car, which is why had to be gentle with it car park even has signs suggesting that it is good idea to park only in the marked bays it was dry, suspect the other car was undamanged, but more curious on the implications if the car HAD been damaged

You are telling people that you didn't respect someone elses car that much that you drove into it repeatedly rather than taking your time or asking someone to watch you out!! Unbelievable. I don't doubt that he parked like a moron - that doesn't mean he should have to get dent doctor and/or a respray!!

From what you say the first hit could be seen as a mistake but all the other ones after that could be classed as criminal damage if it were proven after questions put to you.
After all the evidence is there from what you say about hitting it so many times after shunnting back and forth it should have been obvious that you wereent going to get out therefore you should have gone and sought help/advice.
I agree that perhaps they should not have parked against the wall but you dont know if the car park attendant might have gave them permission knowing whos cars where whos and he might have been able to contact one or all of you.
This is just what I would do and if I attended as a police officer then you most certainly would have to answer some awkward questions. Stefluc

If this all took place on a road or other place the public have access to, you damaged a car and did not leave your details then you have committed an offence. I would get your self down to the local nick and put your hands up.

I'm with the OP to some degree here. If I was stupid enough to park my car in a way that it was obviously goimg to block someone in I would fully expect to come back and find some dents in it.
If you Block someone in you get no sympathy from me and deserve all that you get. All those outraged posters, wait until you come back to your car and find you cant get out then are stuck for say an hour when you could be at home having your tea due to some inconsiderate twunt.
Ok, so hitting it 5 or 6 times may be a bit excessive 1 or 2 dings should have been enough.....

bigdods said: If you Block someone in you get no sympathy from me and deserve all that you get. He didn't block the OP in. The OP drove away. It was difficult to maneuvre out and as he was in a company car, the OP decided f k it, I'll hit him 5 or 6 times when with a little care he could've avoided damage to his own car or the other. Then he drove off without leaving his details and not caring whether the other person had been told to park there by the car park owner.

Scraggles in another thread said: to me a car is a thing, as long as it gets me from a to be, has cruise control, air con and an aux port for my mp3 player and has a big boot; not really worried on the colour, make, model etc
think i have a 1.6, but it could be a 1.8 or a 1.9 ? To which: Someone else said: To most of us the car isn't a thing- which makes you a tiresome little troll. Which appears to be reinforced in this thread. Being indifferent about 'things' is no great crime. Damaging 'things' that may be the pride and joy of others is, be it enforced or not. Annoying that they parked there, but your self metered punishment does not fit the crime.
