Saturday 21st of May 2005

Please book yourselves!

Okay guys (and possibly girls in the case of certain Viper drivers), Santapod have updated their website www.santapod.com with the 2005 calendar of RWYB dates.

We basically have 2 choices as to how we go about this.

We can go to one of their public RWYB days which will cost £10 entry plus £15 signing on fee (remember yo bring both parts of your driving license and a helmet if your car will run the 1/4 mile in less than 14 seconds).
Or,
We can go to one of their limited "Test and Tune" days which costs £10 entry plus £50 in advance or £60 on the day but has the benefit of a strictly limited number of entries.

There are only a few Test and Tune days whereas there are a lot of public RWYB days to choose from.

You tell me what you want and when you can make it and I will arrange it. So I need first choice dates and second choice dates from all potential "boy/girl racers"!

How about 14th May, 30th July, and 10th April ? I can't see how many "strictly limited" is anywhere so without any guarantee on numbers I'd rather stick to the normal RWYB days. Unless you fancy arranging some bracket racing instead of just an ET competition that is ?

...actually, thinking about it, bracket racing would give everyone an equal chance of winning so could be a very good idea !

Forgive my ignorance, but do they let you pair up to race on "public" days??

Probably not officially, but the Mustang boys were doing it one day when I was there a couple of years ago...

It's normally quite easy to orchestrate runs in the fireup lane by waving people past etc...

Have done that at Shakespeare County Raceway... (not in a 'vette though!)

I reckon the best bet is a Test and Tune day, for several reasons:-

The track is properly prepped and doesn't get torn up by all the ricers, traction will be optimum,

RWYB are overrun by ricers, you'll struggle to get any decent number of runs in and there's little chance of us running head to head,

No queues in the fire-up road and no crazy ricers doing donuts in the car park and 60 mph in the pits.

If you can afford the gas to drive there, the entry fee for the T&T day isn't really that expensive.

I'll give it a whirl - any date is good for me in 2005 as I will have bugger all else to do.

My knowledge of this "sport" is a bit limited (as is my ability before anyone else says it) and if I'm being a bit dumb in asking this question, I simply don't care, but can someone tell me what "bracket" racing is, where can I buy a bracket and how fast are these brackets supposed to go??

I'm up for this. I think that I would prefer a Vette/Viper day rather than a run what you brung. Suggest that we consider selected invites to other Yank car owners to boost numbers if necessary. I am sure that we must know loads of people who would rather attend an organised day than a "turn up and take your chance day".

Also, I'll try and get some interest from the Car mags - perhaps Steve Havelock might be interested.

When it comes to dates , can we please try and avoid clashing with any of the big shows that might be on!

Richard, I have my exhaust held on with brackets - maybe this is what it means!!!! As these are L brackets, perhaps it is for learners, like you and me. If you are bored in the summer, you are more than welcome to come and do the shows with me! No wages but...

(bracket) racing is only if your name is hinge!

Seriously, bracket racing is where you say what time you are going to do then try not to beat it!
Say I say "I will do 11 seconds" and you say "I will do 12 seconds" and I do 10.99 and you do 12.01, you win, cos I went below my bracket time.
If I do 11.01 and you do 12.01 then I have no idea who wins, if I do 11.01 and you do 12.02 I win.

Simple really.........okay I'll get my coat

Well, that's nice and clear then!

Bracket racing was introduced to avoid people who threw loads of money at their cars winning all the time. The idea is to make it more even. So quickest isn't necessarily best ( Bit like size isn't important!!!! )After the elimination rounds, they stagger the starts in the semi's and the finals to get both cars over the line as close as possible...

I'm up for this. Would prefer a Test & Tune day. Are these always weekends?

Spoke to Santa Pod today about the "Test & Tune" option. They only allow a maximum of 100 cars to sign on and they are only planning on running 3 "Test & Tune" days next year.

My suggestion is we go for the 1st one on the 19th of March, as the other two dates are the 2nd of July and 3rd of Sept which are bound to conflict with other events.

If you want to attend then I will need you to either book directly in advance with Santa Pod or I will do a block booking, but I will need the cash up front.

My worry about 19th March is that the weather could easily be lousy - oh and I might be skiing then, but that's a selfish reason !

I'm counting on this summer being much better than last ! By the way, what's the Friday or the Saturday like on the Mopar Nats weekend ? Its RWYB for American muscle only so that would suit us just fine.

My bid would be whatever the book says for a C5 plus 4 or 5 seconds reaction time.

Bearing in mind the Nats on the last weekend in June and Le Mans the weekend before that, I think July 2nd might be a bit unpopular...
