As I have previously said the L7C is a great place for technical advice, a great monthly magazine and many very nice people, its just a shame that piss taking, shamming and judgement are also part of the package by the MINORITY who appear to dominate Blatchat.
And as I said above Terry, that's your view, but it isn't shared by many for whom the observation: " I've just re-read the posts on this thread and see nothing abusive or sarcastic, over and above very mild banter!" seemed to be a more widely held view.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree smile

As a L7C member you may be interested to know why so few of the 60 + Canadian Lotus 7 / Caterham Owners arent members of the L7C. In fact over the years that I was a member of the L7C and the Canadian Rep for the Club I tried tirelessly to encourage Canadian 7 owners to join the L7C. In the end I gave up trying.

One of the things that we noticed when moving to Canada was that in most cases Canadians don't share the British piss taking humour, once I understood this it made way more sense why Canadian 7 Owners weren't joining the L7C.

In early December we decided to start the Lotus 7 & Caterham Club Canada. http://caterhamclub.forumchitchat.com/

What appears to have happened is that almost all the Canadian Lotus 7 / Caterham Owners have signed up. What the reasons are I will leave for you to decide.

Enough said.

Yes, I worked for a Canadian company. Irony doesn't appear in their dictionary. Nor does 'Po-faced'

I worked for a Toronto based software company, and while we were small (<200 people) British style humour was regular and prominent.

I fell foul of Canadian lack of humour a year or so ago (in a non-Seven related context.

To be more exact, it's not that they lack humour - it's just that they don't seem to be tuned into our rather knockabout and sometimes disparaging sense of banter.

A mild "insult" meant in jest is not recognised as a jest.

I learned a valuable lesson.

All the Canadians I've ever met seem to have a sense of humour akin to ours which is more that can be said for those south of their border

I'm sure it varies. I've met Americans from both sides of the 53rd parallel and, on the whole, I've found the USA contingent to possess a more knockabout and relaxed sense of humour than the Canadians.

But, no doubt, you will always come across individuals who go against the trend.

I'm fully expecting to be turned back at immigration if I ever travel to Canada.

We've been very fortunate to not only travel fairly extensively but also live in different cultures, we have a home in GOA, so its been fascinating to experience first hand the different gestures and humour. For me I think the golden rule has to be respect. I think the sad thing about many of the comments that are made on forums is all we hear are the words we don't experience the person. The other issue for me has to do with relationships. We all tend to be more open and jovial with the people we know, so banter and mild piss taking is all part of courtship, the problem starts when we become over causal with people we really don't know. We also tend to say things behind our computer screens that we would never say to someone's face. As I said before being non judgemental has to be the key, otherwise difference becomes wrong, not different.

I'm sorry but your pious indignation is quite offensive. If anyone has been judgemental it is you.

Open marriages in the Lotus 7 club! I'd look out for the 620 key ring!
I may check out a few club meets after all.

I seem to remember that for years the discussion raged about upgrading the L7C website. In some ways I can see the merits, but why try and fix something that isn't broken, its a bit like all the companies that have tried to improve on the Seven, as we all know most no good.

I hear talk of 40k, is that real? is that possible and what has the 40k produced. That's a 1000 membership fees, surly this cant be true.

I'd heard talk of mid 30s but it seems a lot was spent on basically not a lot.

Couldn't agree more! Not saying they weren't friendly, it's just that they didn't 'get' my ironic sense of humour....
