you're not a better driver if your a racer!! this forum is blighted by no all'and and my dads better than your dad! its a shambles at times a lot of you want to get a grip and start enjoying yourselves rather than slaggin each other off. youre bringing a bad vibe to the caterham forum
I've raced against people who own ex super touring cars. Being clad in Nomex does not a racer make... Anyway, I think it's time we closed this thread now?

If the OP puts a title up that this is how to drive your going to get comments, positive and negative back....
Change the title to Quick lap of the ring in an R500D and I doubt you'd of one comment disagreeing.....
Doubt it. Too many pedants...Change the title to Quick lap of the ring in an R500D and I doubt you'd of one comment disagreeing.....
The 'properly' label in the title referred more to someone driving with commitment rather than a technical coup de grace on lines, record breaking lap times, etc.
I think we can all agree to disagree on this one?

Being the most voiciferous poster on this thread, not to mention the one person who keeps telling us all that 'it's the 'Ring and it's difficult and nobody understands.....' (yawn), I think Fergus (1000 laps remember)should post a vid of himself - at the Nordschleife to show us all how he would do it.
a) if you don't like the topic, or me, don't bother commenting?b) I don't video my laps, as I don't have the kit. I can give you details of guys in the Porsche Forum (one of whom one the pro-am Carrera cup this year) who can vouch for my 'times'. Would this suffice?
c) once you've got some experience of the place, feel free to comment
d) I've never commented 'how I would do it', I'll leave that to the real "experts", the guys who race grads, etc. I think you'll find, all the technical critique came from that direction, not me. If you can find an instance of me offering technical tips, I'll concede this point.
e) As I've now mentioned several times on this thread, if the post were entitled "comittment at the Ring", I don't think half of the B/S on this thread would have been posted.
f) the voiciferous posting was in defence of the comitment of the guy driving, which was being dismissed by the "caterham paddock clique" (sorry, club)
Not sure what your point is to be honest? :wkersign:

Oooooh, I didn't know you knew him! I assume you mean Pro-Am 2? I'll ask him what you mean next time I see him!ETA - I don't see why you've taken it upon yourself to defend the driver in the video, none of us slagged it off initially, we just displayed indifference!

So Fergus, are you dismissing the whole caterham racing fraternity as unqaulified to comment or just the grads?
Neither, just provoking the easily provoked. Back in your box now please. I think you're waiting for Stuart to come along and tighten your nuts on your behlaf? jimmyslr said:
I think everyone is almost in agreement aren't they?
The chap in the vid is having an excellent time and clearly has larger manly equipment than me. I've lapped the ring with a similarly nutcase driver in a very sideways Blackbird 7 which was an absolute hoot. We passed some cars whilst travelling sideways; not big or clever but hilarious - he was an ex rally driver and I'd seen him do this before. Plenty commitment, plenty fun. I've never driven my 7 anything like that fast at the Ring as I am scared of getting it wrong.
I also happen to race and indeed was racing a fastish 7 at the weekend at Brands. If the chap in front went sideways coming of Druids or Clearways I caught up and maybe passed him. It made for excellent crowd entertainment and got me back in the game, but it did lose time vs a different approach.
I love the video. I would not drive as fast as that at the Ring. I do reckon I could have the guy at Brands though. Nothing wrong with any of those things

Can we agree to end this thread on this excellent summary from James? PS still got the '4RS?

Mr. McC can 'vouch' for me.... I'm not trying to defend the driver, merely attempting to make the point that he's driving in a fairly comitted manner on a track which does not offer any run off. I can't put it any more objectively than that can I?
Mmmm, I think you're in danger of meeting me half way with that statement johnnyddaman said:

Are you referring to the lap of a 911 driving in deep snow around the Ring? If so, that is
