I'm pleased you're ok, and hope you don't suffer much. I had an accident in '70s Elan with similar damage and enough of a knock for me to bruise my knee, bend the steering wheel and feel sore from the belt......more positively I was fine and back to normal after couple of weeks, so I hope you are too smile

Wow you where fairly lucky to get out of that with only minor bumps especially against a 4x4. Hope the police look at prosecuting the other driver.

Christ! Glad to see you're ok!

Drives me mad how people feel they "must" pass cyclists immediately, regardless of their forward visibility. It's like standard overtaking rules go out the window.

Chris, saw the pictures on FB and I'm really glad you're ok. It's terrifying to think where that front wheel and wishbone went after they got ripped off, did they come anywhere near you?

Forgot to say, good to see you're planning on getting a new 7 straight away.

I was hit this time last year (not in the 7 thankfully). My first accident in 11 years of driving and it really shook me up. I trust no-one these days! It's probably made me even more aware of what other people are doing around me on the road, but it's scary to think that some accidents are just plain unavoidable. (I was hit side on on a roundabout, didn't even see the car that hit me before she came straight on without braking or looking!).

I'm looking for a new car already, I'm working on the assumption mine will be written off but I don't know for sure yet. They might decide to repair mine?

As for where the wheel station went, I don't know but thankfully it didnt clout my cannister and dash out the small amounts of brain I have!

I guess with a bent chassis and a shifted engine, they might well write it off. My Megane ended up being repaired, but after the long wait on parts and courtesy car, the total bill was almost definitely more than the value of the car - all accepted by the 3rd party. Make sure you write up a good description of the incident and make it very clear that you were not at fault. The cyclist and anyone else nearby will be worthwhile eyewitnesses.

Thankfully you won't need a courtesy car I assume? I'd imagine you'll have the whole saga sorted quite quickly given the circumstances.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. At least you know now what a Seven can withstand.

They seem to be pretty robust in frontal impacts.

I had a near miss a month or so ago when a motorist turning right out of a side road nearly took me out. Luckily, I was - just - able to swerve around the front of her car and avoid a collision.

Very pleased to see that you walked away from that one. I've often wondered what the outcome of a shunt might be.

Today I've arranged for my car to be recovered to my house rather than it go to Copart. The insurance company were more than happy to arrange it and I'll have it back in a couple of days with the assessor coming (hopefully) shortly after.

Its going to be horrid having it here looking so smashed up but at least it gives me some level of control - the world seems to be of the opinion that once in an accident your car belongs to the insurance company and it can be treated like scrap from day one, they seem to forget its my pride and joy and belongs to me until I've accepted a settlement and handed over the V5.

Just got to wait on the assessors report before deciding what to do next.

Depressing.

Update - the car is on its way to me right now!

I've only seen the picture in the OP and given the estimated impact speed I am impressed, I know from your description its proper broken but if you'd just shown us the picture I'd wager we'd have guessed at a lower speed impact- clipping a sheep or something.

Good luck with the insurance nazi's, I'd get out with a camera and document everything when it makes it to your place before the assessors start poking around.

The car is home and looking very sad indeed.

As well as the obvious front end damage there's a lot that's not immediately clear to the eye.

Drivers footwell is buckled.
Transmission tunnel is buckled.
Gearbox has shifted back and a section is sticking into the drivers compartment.
Diff is pissing oil.
De Dion tube is fouling the rear right hand wheel.
Chassis bent in engine compartment.
Dents on rear panel.
Exhaust primaries bent and silencer dented.
Throttle cable snapped.
Sump has a hole in it.

And there's more, its not looking good at all!

Sitting on stands in the garage now and its not sitting evenly - I suspect a twisted chassis.

The assessor is here on Friday so I should know where I stand next week.

As I said earlier, depressing!

That's a definite write-off I'm afraid. It's not all bad though, you walked away and you get to buy a shiny new toy smile

This is one of my biggest fears as a cyclist and a 7 owner. People overtake cyclists in the most ridiculous places just to save themselves 10 seconds!

Glad to hear your ok and on the hunt for another one!

On a selfish note, what happens to all the bits off your old car if it is written off?

They'll all go to the insurance company unless be buys the car back (if that's even an option depending on the amount of damage).

Glad to see you're ok - looks like it could've been a lot worse.

The reality is that people are just too lazy to slow down, change gear, overtake safely and speed up again. Modern cars make it too laborious and at the same time convey a cocooning false sense of security. So a quick swerve and hope will suffice. Tossers.

Anyway all the best for your search for a replacement.

Lucky ?? always makes you think.what if!!! From what we can see no matter what the speed it was too fast, I know we all do it,I'd be on the phone looking for a replacement hire car at the other parties expense whilst a suitable replacement is found plus the on going physical and psychological damage. Just imagine our daughters out on that country road on a hack!!! I've had more than my fair share of my own recklessness near misses and cyclist near misses out in the sticks, I stopped riding my R1 in London after 1 too many blameless near misses and arrogant cyclists who must drive taxis for a living. Lady luck rode with you that day, I try to take her out everytime!!
What a cretin.
