The dizzy on my 1700 X-Flow is nicely hidden by the inlet manifold for the two Weber DCOE 40s. I cannot even see any model numbers on it only the word "Lucas". It looks like I will need to take the manifold off to get to the dizzy to find the model number so I can order an electronic ignition kit. I presume the manifold is water cooled so I will have to drain off some coolant. Are there any neat tricks to get round this? I am worried about air locks when I refill.

Hmmm, I swapped my dizzy out on my old Caterham for a webber 3d ignition system and certainly didn't remove the carbs or manifold. I also had the cap off many times before I changed, again without sripping carbs etc.

It can be done, just needs a bit of tlc.

Ask the question on Blatchat.com or do a search several options for changing out the distributor

Thanks.

I can get the cap off but I have no clear view of the distributor body to see any identifying marks.

Phew that was fun. I got the dissy out and it is a Lucas FL303. I searched the web for it. Lots of hits but no Lucas dizzy. Does anyone know if it has another ID?

Well that was fun and games. My se7en is back on the road after three weeks pratting around looking bits. I tried to fit the Bosch dizzy that the previous owner bought but could not fit. I got the thing installed and managed to fire up the beast only to find that there was not enought clearance for the side entry cap so I could turn the dizzy to set the correct timing! Meantime the inertia starter died of old age and it took two weeks to locate a recon unit. I put the old Lucas FL303 dizzy back in and I am mobile again, though with points. I think I will leave well alone until my nerves have calmed down and I feel up to fitting the contactless gizmo.
